He will. I just hope it's before Motiejunas is eligible to be in the asking price.

They are getting a center piece! Before last season, Kevin Martin averaged 20 or more points 7 years in a row. Sure, he missed a hell of a lot of games with the Kings, but when he played, he scored.

(think they'd go for it? No chance? Bummer!)

Oh, and he's a big expiring contract!

Someone needs to tell Shaq that that's the point.

Yeah I really won't be going crazy if we don't end up with Dwight. We have 6 pretty good looking prospects on rookie contracts. Two of which look to have very high upside in Donuts and Lamb. Then we have the obscene amount of cap space after this year like you mentioned and likely 2 lotto picks.

I'm sure that's what Morey will do. Howard is not playing for them ever again. The Rockets are wiling to give them a fair amount of assets and take on some salary for a rental. There is no centerpiece to be had. Do they consider Brook Lopez signed to a max deal a centerpiece? That's the sort of backward thinking that could be the real holdup.

That's the point I've been trying to drive home for about week and a half now.

The point a lot of CFers are making about Morey having a lot of leverage in this thing is pretty valid, but it's completely shot if the Magic are stupid about this whole thing.

We've seen the reports and stuff about what they value, and the Rockets have it all. That could change on a whim and the Magic could decide, like you said, that someone like Brook Lopez on a max contract is a "centerpiece" type player. It's completely stupid, but no one can control the possibility that their FO might make a really dumb decision in the coming weeks.

Shaq is right about Brian Shaw. That would have been a good fit.

    Hmmm.

I still don't see it from the Magic perspective though. Even if Bynum agrees to sign extension why would Orlando pull the trigger on deal? LA can't take back bad contracts, can't offer any picks--Magic would be in the same boat as with Howard, only Bynum is a lesser player, so actually worse off. No flexibility to improve due to their cap situation. No assets to help them do it.

I fully buy that LA wants Howard, but if Orlando negotiates with them I think it's only to put pressure on other teams (mainly us).

If Dwight is totally out of the picture, just let Bynum go. If Knicks don't match Lin, give Chicago a poison pill, trade Martin somewhere, and boom!

    Lin/Machado
    Lamb/Forbes
    Parsons/White
    Jones/Patterson
    Motiejunas/Asik

    Off the charts youth.

It's probably because they're trying to still figure things out with Lin/Asik. Also, with word that they're looking for a centerpiece in a deal from us, maybe we're looking to make a trade for somebody they like? If there's a team interested in Kevin Martin, maybe we could swing a three way deal...

I'm sure Morey is on the phone with them regularly monitoring the situation. They have a specific package they want from him and are trying to leverage their way into getting it. He will give up whatever it takes I'm sure, but is trying to keep the offer as low as possible while still landing Dwight.

Orlando has to love to Bynum to make a deal with the Lakers because they have nothing else to get from them. No prospects, no draft picks and no salary dumping. I don't even really see how the Lakers could get them a pick in a three way trade. Is someone going to give a pick for Meta?

I find this tweet to be both ridiculous and fairly amusing.

The Rockets have already had their trade discussions with Orlando and have made it known what they are willing to trade for Dwight and/or take on from Orlando. Also, Houston most likely does NOT want to make a Dwight trade right now, as they first must deal with the Lin and Asik offer sheet situations, as well as some other free agent situations (Lee, Dragic).

This is like saying that someone does not have dinner reservations, despite the fact that the person just finished his dinner at the restaurant.
