J.R. Smith Thinks Knicks Players Would Be Mad If the Team Matched Lin

Some Knicks fans might be upset that the team isn't planning on bringing Jeremy Lin back next season by matching the offer that the Houston Rockets made to him recently. But, it doesn't sound like there's going to be any love lost between Lin and his soon-to-be former teammates if he ends up in Houston. We've already heard Carmelo Anthony call the contract that the Rockets gave Lin "ridiculous." And, now J.R. Smith is blasting the offer, too, and saying that if the Knicks did match the Rockets offer and re-sign Lin, it'd hurt some feelings in the Knicks locker room next season.

"I think some guys take it personal," Smith said yesterday, "because they've been doing it longer and haven't received any reward for it. I think it's a tough subject to touch on for a lot of guys."

So, from the sound of that quote, some Knicks players feel like Lin doesn't deserve the $30 million contract offer he just received from Houston because he hasn't really proven himself in the league yet. Which is fair. But, don't they realize how much money that guy is going to make for an NBA team regardless of whether or not he pans out as a player? Jersey sales. Ticket sales. Sponsorships. Despite what some players might think, that is the name of game. And, that's what Lin will provide for an NBA team for at least a season or two—even if he sucks on the court. It doesn't sound so "ridiculous" when you look at it like that, right?

can't believe they're ISO'ing Lin like that. It's because of him they even made it to the playoffs. Actually, it's JRsmith and carmelo so I can believe it. Snitches get stitches biotches.

Its guys like Carmelo and JR Smith that are ruining that team. Non-winning All Stars.

I still don't understand how JR Smith only got 1.4 million dollars per year.

I know right, he's essentially a off the bench spark plug like Ben Gordon who makes 12M a year. He just doesn't know how to market himself I guess, bad reputation.

He doesn't care what coaches say, George Carl was fighting an up hill battle with J.R., teams aren't blind and are not going to give a guy like that 12mil to be a cancer. He either needs to clean up his act, or stop hating on other players.

It's almost impossible to like NBA players anymore. Overpaid, whiny, douchebags.

The funny thing is that the Knicks actually think they have assembled a championship contending team. They are a second round playoff team and will be for the next 3 years. The are overhyped and overrated every year because they play in NYC. I'd rather have our current squad of young players than their squad of overpaid divas.

I hope this sentiment pushes their management to not match our offer. JR acts like he's just the messenger, speaking for his teammates, but you just know he is mainly speaking for himself, whether he knows it or not. If he wasn't, he would have said so.

Damn throwing Lin underneath the bus and this is where Lin still wanted to go to. It will be interesting to see what happens IF Lin does go back to the Knicks.

These ass-clowns. That's why he signed for 2 mil per, cause nobody wanted his selfish ass. Good luck getting swept out of the first round with one of the highest pay-rolls in the NBA.

Rockets didn't poison pill the Knicks. The punks, Melo and Smith did.

I agree....I love it how racism is only one way ...but when African Americans are racist against other races then its not called racism.....Smith and melo need to stfu cause lin makes the Knicks or has the potential to make them a lot more than either of them do...

but I'm happy cause I think this makes the Knicks not match the offer even more which is our gain!!
