The term 'taking over the reins' stems from the reins connected to a horse's bridle. To take over the reins is the equivalent of taking the 'driver's seat' from one person to the next. Hence, the analogy of 'taking over the reins' as coach from McHale to whoever comes next. You cannot 'take the reign' from someone. In that case, it is a noun, in which case it is simply a descriptive noun, used to connote the time period of rule for some sort of monarch. The proper word to use in the OP's post is 'rein', not 'reign'. So, consider a word picked, brah.
If Scottie Brooks can lead the Thunder to the finals, surely Matt Maloney can get us past the 1st round.
Pete chilcutt! What's that guy up to? Never knew Brooks would turn out to be a phenomenal coach! Who knows maybe chilcutt has it in him????? Lol
The best available coach in this league right now is JVG. He does more with less better than anyone. But you don't get JVG unless you want to and ready to contend. Otherwise you will just be caught in no man's land. He's not a rebuilder.
Oh God no. No way. Paul Westhead? The same dude that Magic ran out of town? Dude has no concept of defense, and as a fan, I have no respect for someone like that.
Okay, okay, I did go a little fanboyish there, I admit. I just love me some fast-paced ball. I mean, as awesome as T-Mac's 13-in-35 was, we forget that it was a really low-scoring game until the final minute. The Derek Fisher 0.4-second shot was even worse--neither team had gotten to 80 points yet! Both moments were incredible, but if you were to watch the actual games on ESPN Classic, it would be a really, really ugly path to get there. And besides...defense may win championships, but offense is what gets the fans out of their seats and begging for more. It brings money to the organization--which means it sounds a lot like something Morey or Les would do... ...not that Westhead would fit here, of course. You need JUST the right players for The System to work; he had them at Loyola-Marymount, but he did NOT have them in Denver. And for the record, Kareem loved the guy. But hey, it's hard to argue with the success of the man who replaced him in LA...Pat Riley.
McHale has a four year deal & Les doesn't fire coaches under contract. even when they refuse to take his calls, bring in their own people & kick him out of the loop.
Mr. Van Gundy excelled at delivering less with more for the Houston Rockets, including the single most embarrassing loss in franchise history
Bring in both Van Gundy's . I can see the score now Oponets 42pts Rockets 38pts, The Rockets would average about 40pts a game.
