Hello, my name is BobFinn* and I am a baseball addict :D

Just simulated Game 1 of a best of 7 series between the 1927 Yankees (Greatest Team of All-Time) and the 1980 Astros. Waite Hoyt started for the Yanks against Nolan Ryan.

Yanks win game 3-1. The Astros only run came in the bottom of the 8th when Cesar Cedeno lined a double with 2 outs and Denny Walling followed with a single to center.

Ryan went 7 innings with 6 K's. Game 2 will follow if any interest in this matchup is shown.

    Game 3

J.R. Richard mows down "Murderers Row" as Astros climb back into Series with 5-3 win.

J.R. went 7 innings with 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out only 3 but was in command when it counted. Joe Sambito pitched 1 inning and Dave Smith closed it out in the 9th to preserve the victory.

Cesar Cedeno led the Astros offense with 4 hits, 3 doubles 3 runs scored and 3 RBI's as well as a stolen base.

Babe Ruth was held hitless and Gehrig could only manage a weak single off Richard.

Yanks lead series 2 games to 1. Game 4 pitching matchup:

    Nolan Ryan vs Waite Hoyt

    Game 4

Despite not allowing Ruth or Gehrig to reach base Nolan Ryan lost his second game of the series 3-1.

With the Astros trailing 3-1 in the top of the 7th, Walling singles, Enos Cabell pops out, Alan Ashby doubles and Craig Reynolds grounds out. With 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Hal Lanier sends in Danny Heep to hit for Ryan. Heep swings at the first pitch and pops out to SS ending the threat.

Ryan threw 6 innings with 7 hits and 4 K's.

Game 5 could be the last for the Astros, who trail 3 games to 1.

Joe Niekro will go against crafty left-hander Herb Pennock.

Wouldn't just Nolan Ryans salary be higher than the entire payroll of the '227 Yankees? :p

    Game 5

Astros win slugfest 11-6. Despite a monster game from Lou Gehrig (2 HR's 5 RBI's) the Astros hold on to send the series back to Houston.

Taking an 11-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth, Niekro apparently ran out of gas. Collins walked and Earl Combs tripled to cut the Astro's lead to 11-5. Lazzeri followed with a single to score Combs.

Gordie Pladson came in to relieve Niekro and got Babe Ruth to hit a lazy fly to left-center which Cesar Cedeno misplayed, allowing Lazzeri to reach 3rd and Ruth second base. Gehrig then followed with a monster shot into the upper deck in right field to bring the Yanks within 11-9. Pladson then got Koenig to ground out to end the game.

Joe Niekro helped his own cause with 3 RBI's. Morgan, Walling, Cabell and Ashby each had 2 RBI's.

The series returns to Houston for games 6 and 7 (if necessary)

Urban Shocker will go against J.R. Richard in Game 6

    Game 6

Astros force a 7th game with 4-3 win in game 6.

J.R. Richard allowed 2 runs in the first inning, then held the mighty Yankees offense in check as the Astros rallied for the 4-3 victory. Richard went 8 innings, giving up 7 hits, 4 walks, while striking out 9. Joe sambito pitched the 9th for the save.

Jose Cruz broke out of a slump with 3 hits and 1 RBI. Cedeno had 2 RBI's and Cabell had 1. Joe Morgan scored 2 runs and the Astros stole 4 bases.

    Series tied 3-3

Game 7 pits Waite Hoyt against Nolan Ryan at the Astrodome.

    Woooooo Hooooooo

AS an Astro fan...it is all I have. LOL. Well that and Computer games.

I wonder how scientific this thing is. Is it like a Madden simimulator....just randomly throws out stats for players according to who they were or if it is better than that.

    Wow...

    91 Skins 14-2

    Just beat the

    92 Cowboys 13-3

24-21 in OT baby...gotta love this site.

    Game 7

It was a big day for Houston sports, maybe the biggest ever. Game 7 of the World Series. Sure the Rockets won 2 championships, but they are the new kids on the block in Houston, moving their in 1970. The Astros (Colt 45's) joined the National League in 1963 and have enjoyed very little success.

It was a perfect day in Houston, 75 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, too bad they had to play this game in a Dome. Needless to say, the Astrodome was packed, standing room only, and they were loud, VERY loud.

Nolan Ryan didn't look sharp warming up in the bullpen. His curveball was not working. He took the mound for the biggest game of his career:

    Top 1: '27 Yankees
Nolan Ryan takes the mound. Earle Combs grounds out. 1 Out. Tony Lazzeri grounds out. Babe Ruth pops out.

The crowd was going nuts already. The Astros look hungry:

    Bottom 1: '80 Astros
Waite Hoyt takes the mound. Terry Puhl lines out. 1 Out. Joe Morgan gets walked. 1 Out. Jose Cruz hits a line drive single to LF. 1 Out. Cesar Cedeno strikes out. Denny Walling hits a line drive single to 1B. Enos Cabell gets walked. 2 Out. Alan Ashby hits a popup single to RF. Craig Reynolds flies out to shallow CF.

    2-0 Astros lead

    Top 2: '27 Yankees
Lou Gehrig hits a home run. 0 Out. Bob Meusel strikes out. Mark Koenig gets walked. 1 Out. Joe Dugan strikes out. Pat Collins gets walked. 2 Out. Waite Hoyt hits a groundball single to CF. Koenig is thrown out at home.

    2-1 Astros

    Bottom 2: '80 Astros
Nolan Ryan gets walked. 0 Out. Terry Puhl hits a home run. 0 Out. Joe Morgan grounds out. Jose Cruz flies out. Cesar Cedeno flies out.

4-1 Astros. The Dome is rockin now.

    Top 3: '27 Yankees
Earle Combs hits a home run. 0 Out. Tony Lazzeri strikes out. Babe Ruth strikes out. Lou Gehrig strikes out.

Nolan Ryan is throwing fastballs only. Ruth and Gehrig just shake their heads.

    Bottom 3: '80 Astros
Denny Walling flies out. 1 Out. Enos Cabell hits a single. 1 Out. Alan Ashby flies out deep to CF. Cabell steals second. Craig Reynolds flies out to shallow RF.

Yanks do nothing in the 4th

    Bottom 4: '80 Astros
Nolan Ryan strikes out. 1 Out. Terry Puhl gets walked. 1 Out. Joe Morgan hits a home run. 1 Out. Pitching change: Waite Hoyt is replaced by Myles Thomas. Jose Cruz hits a single. 1 Out. Cesar Cedeno hits into a fielders choice. Cruz is forced at second. Cedeno steals second. Denny Walling grounds out to 2B.

    6-2 Astros.

Cabell leads off the 5th with a single, steals 2nd and comes home on Ashby's single. 7-2

The Yanks add 2 runs in the 5th, but the Astros score when Ashby doubles, Reynolds triples and Joe Morgan singles. 9-4 Astros after 7.

    Bottom 8: '80 Astros
Bob Shawkey is the new pitcher. Enos Cabell hits a single. 0 Out. Alan Ashby hits a flyball double down the RF line. Cabell scores from first. 0 Out. Craig Reynolds grounds out to 2B. Nolan Ryan strikes out. Terry Puhl flies out to shallow LF.

10-4 Astros. We go to the 9th. Top of the order for the Yankees.

    Top 9: '27 Yankees
Earle Combs lines out. 1 Out. Tony Lazzeri gets walked. 1 Out. Babe Ruth lines out to 1B. Lou Gehrig hits a line drive double down the RF line. Lazzeri scores from first. 2 Out. Bob Meusel gets walked. 2 Out. Mark Koenig hits a line drive triple to right center. 2 Out. Pitching change: Nolan Ryan is replaced by Joe Sambito. Joe Dugan pops out to 1B.

I don't know how many times you are going to hold the greatest player in the history of the game to an 0-4 performance in game 7, but congrats to the upstart Stros. To bad they couldn't even win a WS in real life against only the other 1980 teams. :p

    Somewhere Willie Mays is saying:

"I hit 50 less home runs in my career, AND played Defense...who's the greatest?"

Anybody else want to see how the 94-95 Rockets would hold up against the 72-10 Bulls?? That would be the ultimate matchup.
