You guys are basing everything on Howard resigning. When he doesn't, then we would have to scrape up a team, play out another full season before we can start rebuilding.

I'm betting the Cavs-Lakers talks are just Rob trying to drive up the price on Morey... Rob doesn't want to look back and feel like he got screwed by Morey like other GMs!

And when he leaves, it will be like the Astros of '06.

Was that when Beltran left and we made the world series after that? Cause I remember loving that!

Sounds better than mediocrity. I'd rather Morey take a chance on trying to get Howard than letting him pass and hope we get a star in the draft. At least with Dwight there is a glimmer of hope we can get that, if not then we go with the draft, which would take longer but at least its something.

Is Chris Broussard still alive? haven't heard from him in awhile.

Beltran left in 04. Still, that was an exciting time to be an Astros fan.

Beltran got us to the world series then left after that. We haven't even sniffed playoffs since. The same will happen with Howard.

Was it '04? I know when he left, so did winning.

You are 100% wrong. Beltran left in 2004 after the Astros lost in the NLCS to the Cardinals. The next year, the Astros made it to the World Series WITHOUT HIM.

We went to the WS in 05 after he left but that was mainly because Ensberg took over his production, which was gone by the WS.

Actually the only time the Astro's have ever made the series was in '05 the year after Beltran left.

    Made my day! LOL

Good, insightful piece. I never thought of Dwight getting more exposure with the (rumored) likeliness of the Rockets keeping Lin and the Chinese market.

Wow, 7 years of suckage! This is my worst fear for the Rockets when Dwight runs off.

04 game 7 NLCS literally put Clemens in as a relief pitcher, still lost :(

Or was it Oswalt that relieved Clemens?

We already have a jump on our rebuilding with the draft we had. They should take that direction.

Beltran wasn't the reason they sucked for so long... It was the owner who fired GM's, managers, and coaches and replaced them with guys who didn't know what the f*** they were doing, Purpura being the main culprit.

Idk if it's in my head but iirc Chicago started playing don't stop believing after posednik hit that walk off bomb.

I cringe a little whenever I hear that song now.

Despite that I would still prefer losing in the playoff than where the steps are at now.
