SF seems to be pissed a bit when they said he did a good job of getting Yao Ming the ball. NO shame, SF, it is the best praise Jason Kidd and the like would like to hear.
amen. I have no problem with steve's points going down as long as his assists go up. I think Steve got spoiled early in his career. For a few years he was the only true scorer on the team, now he has company, and it's time to start being a distributor, not a shot taker.
i saw the last few minutes of the halftime show and if i remember correctly, kenny said he wanted 4 tickets to that friday rockets vs lakers match. and steve said something about how it wouldn't be a yao vs shaq matchup since they would lose that battle. also steve said something about how yao will be a little more excited for that game. anybody know what they said before all that.
Why even make such a terrible team comment. Ive been on Steve's side many times, but that comment: "It wont be a Yao Vs Shaq matchup since we will lose that battle" Is just petty crap. Did someone inform him that Moochie better never be on the court the same time as him...cause that means its Him and Kobe and it wont be a Kobe vs Francis matchup since he would lose that matchup." UGH.
Steve seemed uptight to me. His always watching his words... It didn't help that Charles wasn't giving him a chance to talk... Charles seems to still be bitter towards Steve, he certainly doesn't give Steve his props although he did say Steve was the best player on the team but it was trying up Kenny for saying that Yao was the best player on the team... They asked Stevie alot of questions about Yao... but Steve didn't give any real answers no new insight about Yao. Ernie says something like "How is it to play with Yao and Stevie just mumbles some confusing sentence that doesn't answer anything. I mean he could have easily said Yao is great to play with. He's a humble guy and he works really hard and he's a great passer. These are all things that his teammates have said. But instead he just says some crap about not expecting him to be as good right away. Charles teased him about the rock on his ear and Stevie uncomfortably ignored him, it wasn't a good interview.
No, not at all. Steve is just saying that the ROCKETS need to beat the LAKERS. Basketball is not just one-on-one, and if it were, Yao would lose to Shaq on January 17. Yao Ming is not yet as good as Shaq. Period.
I like it when Steve said '...if that's who (Yao Ming) the fans want to see' in response to Barkley's comment that he thought Yao's being the starter was wrong.
I was surprised to see Steve on the set at halftime. All I could think about during the interview was how Barkley would come out and say how hard-headed Steve and Cuttino were back when Chuck was still here. I'm shocked that Steve would even go on the show where Chuck took so many shots at him publicly. Missed most of the interview, but I tuned in when they were asking him about Yao leading Shaq in the All-Star voting. Seemed like a pretty fluff interview if you ask me.
It's true that the only thing that matter is the Rockets win. As far as Steve said Yao losing the battle, it's probably true. May be Steve is looking out for Yao as he doesn't want to make Shaq mad. If Yao win the battle then it will be a greater accomplishment as nobody expect him to win. Trash talk doesn't do anything except pump up your opponent. So, I think it's probably better to said that Yao will lose the battle and have Yao came out and prove otherwise. Yao do not put down his opponent before the battle. He let his game do the talking for him. So if you look at the comments by Steve from that point of view then I don't think that Steve is putting down his teammate.
Let the ego go, Steve. You've got everything: A great contract; Shoes deal; A great coach who trusts you; A great center as your teamate ... Forget about the spotlight, just focus on bball and win championship. Peace...
As was said earlier, Steve was just saying that if they focus on the match up between Shaq and Yao. The Rockets would not win, which is exactly right. There was no ego, and if you think there was, you weren't paying attention. I thought al in all it was pretty good except for Kenny and Barkley talking to much.
