How can I fix and check my credit? Every time I try to apply I get denied. Its probably from those import tuner subscriptions when I was 15 that I didn't pay and some co-pays.

What has made your credit so bad? Do you have previous negative experiences or do you have none at all?

Also, quit applying over and over again for credit. That does nothing but harm your credit every time you apply whether approved or not.

I don't know. Probably just minor unpaid stuff. I never had a credit card to begin with. I was always a cash person. Felt like I didn't need one.

To start, get all of the unpaid stuff paid off or at least get it in good standing.

Start with a secured credit card that reports to the bureaus before even thinking about an unsecured card.

Check CreditKarma.com to see what your transunion score to get an idea of what your score is like.

you got a car or mortgage student loans? those are calculated in your score. You might just have a very short credit history that's why you keep getting denied.

Why you want credit now after not having any? I only use credit for the rewards.

That's what a friend of mine did who had to go through a bankruptcy. He started with a secured credit card (you deposit money in the credit card account, OP, and then draw on that when you use the card), and after he got back on his feet, ended up with very good credit. Of course, it helped that when he had an income, it was a rather large income. The guy tried getting into the BBQ business in Westlake Hills here in the Austin area, being tired of the financial game (has an MBA from Harvard), and it just about ruined him.

Good advice. You can do this, OP. After a while, you get a "regular" credit card and off you go.

Anything under 18 should not be on your report.

Before anyone can tell you how to fix your credit, you need to pull your report from all three agencies and figure out what is against you.

Once you "clean up" your report, get three lines of credit and never be delinquent.

Ideally, you want to setup different forms of credit:

Work towards getting a good unsecure credit card with a large limit...something like 20k. Use it only to pay your monthly expenditures (bills, gas, food, ect..) and pay it off every month and hold onto it for as long as you can.

Use car loans that report to agencies. I use CapitalOne AutoFinance. If you continue to use the same loan provider, they offer better rates over time.

There are other ways to establish credit lines. What I have been doing is using my bank line of credit. I will pull out $100 and the bank automatically makes the monthly min payment. When its about to be paid off, I pull out another. You can also get CD's and take out loans against them.

Go here first and you can get one of your scores completely free with no strings. I get mine here every year. This will at least give you an idea of what you're working with, and then you can decide if you want to purchase a more detailed report: http://www.creditkarma.com/

I believe annualcreditreport.com is the one that was setup in compliance with the government. From that site you can pull your credit reports (not scores) from the 3 major agencies. It will tell you all financial reports, positive and negative, that have been reported to the agencies. There should be contact info for those entities as well. Be sure you can verify all reports and dispute any that you can verify you did NOT open. Any negative reports, check to ensure the statute of limitations has not been reached (varies by state) and if it hasn't or is not close, then work on getting those paid or in good standing.

As mentioned previously, credit karma can give you an idea of what your score is for free.

    Need anything else just post.

What makes it more complicated, is that agency will only reveal info to me thru mail, not email. Asking all sorts of personal info. **** sounds even more scammish

    1) How old are you right now? The Credit CARD Act of 2009 makes it very hard for anyone under 21 to get a card.

    2) Check CreditKarma. Whats your score?

    3) The biggest factor in your credit score is your credit utilization ratio (how much you use vs. how much credit available to you. Minimize it). Other factors include: percentage of on-time payments, average age of credit lines, amount of credit lines. The high being better for all of them. Additionally every time you apply that's a hard inquiry and its a ding on your credit score. Of course this is assuming no derogatory remarks e.g. bankruptcy, missed payments, etc. These are the only factors that can change your score. (Also none of import tuner subscriptions should be affecting your score)

    4) How do you apply? Do you apply online? When you an instant decision is it a pending decision? If so, call the reconsideration line. A lot of the time, a person will reconsider your application.

    5) The biggest thing is that you've never had credit before, so your very limited in your options of how you can build credit. Apply for a secure credit card or if your a student a student credit card.

Take it one step at a time:

    1. Identify the problem
    2. FIX IT!
    3. Identify another problem
    4. FIX IT!
    5. Repeat as necessary until its all FIXED!
