this is the part people dont realize....it's about more than just money.

if NY remains over the apron(4M over lux line) they are penalized as follows.

Yep R2K. This new CBA is going to really hurt teams that flaunt the luxury tax threshold. The not being able to receive a player in sign and trade is one I touched on in the FAQ thread that will need some clarification. What does it mean relative to trading contracts back that match, etc.

From the way Coon states it, can not receive a player in a sign and trade period. Now, I dont think that means that they cant sign and trade a player of their own to someone else, just that they cant take one back that has been signed and traded.

the way I understand it, once you exceed the apron you are essentially subject to a hard cap for the remainder of the year.

the restrictions you and justtx have listed would come back in to play annually until they get back under the apron

just to clarify, how this applies to S&T is:

Team A is subject to a hard cap. Therefore, they do not have any available cap room to sign the desired player to an offer sheet required for a S&T.

We're talking about jeremy lin people. 26 games of action. If i were the knicks,I would let him go. They probably wont, but he can be the next flip murray.

It's the the off court value that both teams are taking into consideration. The Roclets actually do need a PG, so they probably do want him more for 'basketball reasons.'

Having Lin's spotlight on the team will also probably be used as a convincing chip in the Dwight Howard Stay in Houston campaign (if we get him).

My understanding is that an SnT with max bird rights contract is no longer an option. The player being traded can only receive 4 years with 4.5% raises rather than the 5 years with 7.5% raises. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong please.

Isn't there a time limit as to how long the Knicks have to match the offer? Lin signed the offer sheet awhile ago. When is he ours or when is he a Knickerbocker?

I think you need to read CF more. All the info is out there.

Lin signed Rockets offer sheet yesterday. Knicks have 72 hours to match.
