Yeah... The part about them assuming a verbal agreement was somehow binding is comical, especially after they publicly laughed at the verbal saying they would match up to $1 billion. Maybe they shouldn't taunt other teams with money if they don't want to use said money. The smart thing would have been to say "We love Lin, but we'll have to think hard about sacrificing like that for him." after the verbal was announced. Then afterwards, a match would have been considered a sign of respect to Lin. As it stands, they showed their ass, and we spanked it.
Oh man, this is hilarious. Those comments are just...WOW. Knick fans are terrible. Their organization just got taken behind the shed with this. Match it or not; either way they're squad will be severely weakened in the coming years. I hope we get Lin. He's shown he wants to play for Houston. I can appreciate that. And having another player who dislikes the Knicks can't hurt. 18 years and the butthurt is still strong, hah!
I really don't understand what the Rockets are doing here. The Knicks are clearly going to match, and all Morey is doing is pissing off other teams. I wonder if there's some personal grudge he has against them. He was very publicly rooting against them last season, I assumed due to the draft pick implications, but maybe it runs deeper than that.
Under the new CBA, tax paying teams face strict restrictions on how much they can offer players, lenght of contracts and if they are over $ 4 Mil in the tax they cannot participate in sign and trades. I think Morey is more looking to take a big market of the scene for free agent moves.
And that Camby deal, where they got Josh Harrelson from trade and then cut him. I was reading the Knicks forum and they are not at all happy with Morey, lol.
So Houston should be the only team that has to work with a budget and the desires of players? NY should get whatever they want, whenever they want it? I don't think making a public announcement that they will match anything for Lin entitles them to pay less than market value for someone.
As I see... 1. If we got Lin Rockets can open international market and cash some money while developing the young... 2. If we Knicks match Rockets will pursue their future on D12 and lure CP3 to come next years...
I think Morey's endgame in this situation is to prevent another superteam being formed in New York, because Chris Paul is set to become a free agent next season (remember his wedding toast?). Best case scenario, we get Dwight and have enough room to offer Paul the max (with NY because of Lin's contract and pretty much all the other big market teams except for the Clips out of the running) and form our own superteam. At the very least, Les gets some extra cash from the luxury tax implications. And if they don't match, Les gets his international cash cow. From Morey's perspective, it was pretty smart calling NY's bet to match...he pleases his boss one way or the other.
Sounds to me like the Knicks are acting like a bunch of spoiled brats. What no one is kissing their New York @$$es or bowing down to them? I think they need some medicine for their pee pee cause it hurts.
Well said. The arrogance and sense of entitlement of some fans there reflect how their team got into this situation in the first place.
Exactly. Why are you still pissing people off? This is why the league hates us and why we can't get trades done. Les will you fire this guy already!!
