Give Yao The Damn Jump Ball Griffin did the tip last night. KG spanked his butt, as the Hurricane would say What's up with that? Yao is 8 inches taller than him. Yao is 6 inches taller than KG Is Griffin being shelfish and just demanding more touches? What is Rudy thinking? Has he fallen off the wagon?
I'm not sure he is thinking most of the time, but i'm assuming that he changed things based on the fact that Yao had lost the last 4,000 jump balls. I heard Calvin say it was because Yao doesn't jump fast, which I guess is important for jump balls in general.
It's time to trade Eddie for bullying Yao Ming out of the initial jump! Let's also trade Yao Ming for not wanting the jump bad enough... And lets also trade Rudy T for allowing it all to happen!!
I think Yao had lost something like 11 consecutive tips. I think this is partially because refs aren't used to tossing the ball that high and the ball actually gets tossed to the opposing side. Rudy decided to try something different.
haha, good one smeg.... I just wish the NBA could find a ref who could throw the ball up high enough for Yao to tip it... maybe Yao shouldn't jump and just wait for it...
wtf? I hate it when people associate me with Rudy-bashing, knee-jerk, white-line fever posting on very trivial things like Yao Ming's lack of fundamentals on jumping. I'm mean; OK, so is has no jump ball fundamentals whatsoever. Maybe if he had learned to play ball in the States in our playgrounds, he would have learned that very basic skill...j u m p i n g. But he is a quick learner. We all know he is still smarter than Rudy, all the Rockets and 1st round drafts picks combined. So, OK, I agree with Smeggy, that it might be a sign that the Kenny Thomas cancer did spread before we could cut it off, and an infected Griffin is claiming he needs more tips, like some malcontent. But that has nothing to do with Rudy not being a good coach. He won two titles, and is consistently fielding the best jump baller on the team for the opening tip. You don't see him calling Francis's number do you. He knows a lot more about opening tips than you and I.
Perhaps the refs are overcompensating for Ming's height by tossing the ball much higher in the air than they are used to, making them lose control of the ball and have errant tosses that subconsciouslly lean towards the opponent?
It might not be considered a touch, per se, but how is Yao ever going to learn to win the opening tip if Griffin takes it. On second thought, maybe Rudy is stunting the growth of Yao Ming by not letting him do the jump ball.
If Griffin is a "shelfish," that might explain his facial expressions. I think this is just Rudy's genius scheme to help Eddie's confidence. Letting him mop the floor during time-outs wasn't working so well.
This is a secret Rudy strategy. Rudy understands the dangers of plantar facilitis. Using Yao for tip offs creates unnecessary extra jumping. The non-jump ball is part of the Rookie Wall Prevention Program.
"We all know he is still smarter than Rudy, all the Rockets and 1st round drafts picks combined. " What?
Is jump ball that important? I thought if we lose the tip, we get possesion for the beginning of 2nd half. So what is the difference?
