No, I never said that. I don't know that the current team would win in either case.
I said that the Dream Team using no 3 point shooters is the worse strategy. And it gives the current team a far better chance both offensively and defensively.

But, as I said, the Robinson/Ewing is the key here IMO, and that matchup remains a problem in either case.

    Defensive win championships:

    For the Dream Team:
    Jordan will shut down Paul/Westbrook/Williams
Magic will match up well with aging Kobe plus Kobe gonna chuck most his shots anyway
Prime Pippen will give Lebron fit
No one can slow down Durant but it was proven during last Finals, even Durant scored 30points his team still gonna lost
Ewing and Robinson will make Chandler cries and Love can shoot all his 3s he likes but still gonna make less than 40% of it.

    On the other hand:
Magic will post up any smaller guards
Aging Kobe cant guard Pippen. Hell, an aging kobe can't even guard white boys like Stockton and Muller.
Lebron will guard Jordan. This is an interesting matchups.
Barkley and Malone will break Durant or any PFs' bones
Ewing and Robinson will make Defensive Player Chandler shame about his award.

    If USA 2012 had

Wade and Howard too would be intesting.

    Lebron
    Wade
    Kobe
    Durant
    Howard

    but

    Dream Team 123
    USA 2012 115

This is a DISCUSSION forum. Even IF people read all the exchange, there's still gonna be a lot of responses to comments.

Nothing was taken out of context, I'm simply adding another viewpoint and perspecting.

I'm not blaming or arguing either. Its all "What If Sports" HYPOTHETICAL situations we're dealing with here :)

As I said, its overall an even series no matter what kind of matchups and schemes and rules.

But couldn't you argue the same for Westbrook or CP3? There's no one in the nba right now who can guard Westbrook and CP3 is as tough a cover as you get in the league. So I doubt Magic would be able to guard these quick pgs.

I think i'm the one who misunderstood then.
you quoted several of my posts in that reply, so I assumed it's a response to that particular argument, and it seemed kind of disconnected.

but as a separate idea, it's intriguing.
I'd be more traditional. The Dream Team has huge advantage in the paint either way, so going super big at PF seems unnecessary and just hinders their mobility and versatility.

I think its obvious that some of the posters here are too young to have ever watched those guys on the 92 dream team.

It baffles me when people say they were too old or they are not as athletic.

Other than Bird and Magic, everyone on the dream team in 92 was ~30 or younger and still in their prime.

It could be argued that most of those guys on the 92 team were some of the most athletic guys to ever play their position, regardless of era.

Bucher was on ESPN, agreed with Kobe and then was asked to pick the best 5 out of both teams. He selects David Robinson as starting center and I quote: "He was at the pinnacle of his career, this was as good as his...uhhh..as he was at this point". This guy is such a moron. Is everybody @ ESPN full of **** and r****ded, except for JVG & Hubie Brown?

No probably not, alot of them of them would be older, but no one on this team could even dream of guarding a young Shaq, he could score every time against Chandler.

He is the best center on either team (1992 or 2012). He was better than Ewing. I think people don't realize how good Drob was.

These aren't NBA rules. They could just zone up on shaq. I would take 12 over 96.

It's not about picking David, it's about what he said.

If we assume all players are healthy, the Dream Team torches the current team.

100% of the time you'd have some combination of Barkley/Malone Robinson/Ewing on the court. Chandler would be in so much trouble it's not even funny. Pippen would give whoever he guarded fits. People forget how good he was defensively. Stockton (we assumed health here) would be lethal running pick and rolls with Malone or just feeding the post to let Robinson destroy Chandler.

Here you go. I didn't have time to dick around with depth charts, etc, so I don't know if the minutes distribution would be accurate. But, at least it's something:

    Game #1: Dream Team 120 - Current Team 114
    Game #2: Dream Team 100 - Current Team 116
    Game #3: Dream Team 114 - Current Team 110
    Game #4: Dream Team 123 - Current Team 114
    Game #5: Dream Team 88 - Current Team 98
    Game #6: Dream Team 119 - Current Team 115
    Game #7: Dream Team 107 - Current Team 104

After playing 7 games, the original Dream Team wins 5-2.
