Why not facilitate trade to the East?

Maybe it is too much for Noah. It's according how much you value PPat and a 10-14 pick and a 20 something pick. If it was just the picks for Noah would you do it? I think we need a center and Noah surrounded by our young guys is a pretty good start to building a contender. I would love to have Howard if he would agree to an extension, just don't think he will

Look at the last 20 NBA Champions (The Pistons were the only ones who probably don't have a HOFer). You need 1-2 Superstars. That's how you win in this league.

Morey didn't do all of this for freakin' Noah. That's not going to cut it.

You know what talks? $$$$$. Unless you're old and decrepit and made your money and just want a ring, that's another issue. But Howard would be a fool to walk away leaving millions and be able to take home more pay in a state like Texas.

If you're too young to remember, look at our own history with Hakeem.

He called Charlie Thomas a fool, but gladly signed a fat extension. I'm sure if Morey gets Howard, he'll change his tune once he sees what's really out in FA market.

I think people are overestimating the allure of that 5th year. Howard can sign a max deal elsewhere but for only 4 years. He already had dallas on his preferred list at one point. We really don't know what Dwight is thinking so my opinion is that giving up most of our young assets, draft picks and cap flexibility is too big of a gamble. I'm not sure that Noah is the answer, either.

The jest of my thread was i would rather lose Howard to the east and if we can gain something to facilitate it more the better. I'm 54 by the way so I do remember Hakeem blackmailing the rockets for a new contract. The difference I think is that the rockets didn't have to gut their team and Hakeem really wanted to stay.

    5th year + 7.5% raises a year vs 4 years + 4.5% raises a year.

It equates to something like 30 million over the lifetime of the contract.

Dwight resigned with Orlando last year (at least my belief is) because he thought he could demand a trade to Brooklyn and get his full 5 year contract. He wants to get PAID, he isn't going anywhere. I'd believe in hindsight he would've signed with Brooklyn for 4 years, but now they don't have cap space so that is no longer a worry.

As I've been saying a decent chance to grab CP3 with capspace we have, and all of a sudden you have Dwight and CP3, you have a team that can beat the Heat.

You're missing the point. The odds just swung in our favor in a BIG way. Before, Houston had a solid shot at trading for him and almost no chance to keep him. Now we have a great shot at the trade and a good chance of keeping him.

Besides, our future isn't that bright with these young guys. Just one year of losing a lot could make it brighter. We need a superstar, not 10 fourth options.

No thanks, I'd rather try to develop our rookies and develop our own franchise player than try to get someone who doesn't want to be here. If he REALLY wanted to go to the Nets, he should have opted out, got traded then signed for them this offseason. He wanted his cake and eat it too.

Too bad you ain't gettin any cake Dwight!!

Problem is Orlando wants to bleed us dry.

The primary reason we probably haven't had a deal done was because they want more then the picks/players we are offering and probably want to saddle us or LA with ALL of their bad contracts. Personally, I say forget the mess, leave Howard and Orlando to sit in their own mess and work to rebuild via the draft, because it is our best option at this point to get better within 3 years time.
