Where do you rate each individual Rocket Defensively?

Posey is the easy answer because i have not seen him play much

What is going on with hawkins?

Posey and Hawkins for one on one.

Ming, Griffin, and Cato for inside shot blocking.

i think moochies defence this season has been overlooked by his uninspired offencive play.

if we needed one stop to win the championship i would go with this line-up:

    cato
    griff
    posey
    hawkins
    mooch

i would have put ming in, but they may go right at him to get the foul called.

steve let marbury go right to the rim to win a game.

it comes down to cat or hawk and i think that early on in the season hawks defence was hands down better on star players like kobe

Moochie is the worst defender I have ever seen. He makes Charles Barkley look like T.R. Dunn.

Moochie....please...the guy waves his arms like a clown out there, and peeks at the basketball all the while his man is roaming free.

    Moochie is a TERRIBLE defender.

    UGH ....

Perimeter: Posey followed closely by Hawk

Post: Cato followed closely by (surprise) MoT

And the person you don't want checking MJ at the end of the game: Has to be Rice, though Moochie scares the hell out of me as well.

And Steve just plain pisses me off sometimes (all the potential to be a great defender, but just doesn't get it done often enough).

Yeah, MoT really isn't a bad defender. I remember a game where he was giving up some height to Duncan, but he was holding his ground. Unfortunately, I think I'm remembering a game from a couple of seasons ago, but he has the fundamentals, and he knows how to position himself.

Maurice Taylor added 15 points on 6-13 from the floor. He, Kenny Thomas and Kelvin Cato combined to play terrific defense on Tim Duncan. Forget about Duncan's team-high 26 points and 15 boards... the Rockets held him to 11-28 shooting, a number which was beefed up by Duncan's strong performance late against Cato.

    And not to mention
    http://www.clutchcity.net/game.cfm?gameID=138
Taylor got to the line a staggering 15 times, making 11 freebies and hit 11-20 shots from the floor. He also grabbed 6 boards, blocked a pair of shots and -- get this -- dished 5 assists.

That game Mo was the man on both sides of the court.

    He's had his defensive moments.

"A member of the NBA All-Defense team from 1983-85, T.R. Dunn enjoyed a long career in the NBA, primarily with the Denver Nuggets."

Hope that helps with your horribly obscure comparison Dada. :)

I like Posey and his defense. Hawk is a good one on one defender but never gets playing time. AFter that, I like Cato. He has been strong inside this year. REbounding, blocking shots, and fouling hard when he needs to. Cato has definately improved and could be a great defender. EG really showed some good D last night also.

    1) Posey--flat-out, the best defense we have seen on the Rox in ages
    2) Hawk--close up there with Posey..
    3) Eggie--has played some good D on the likes of KG, Duncan.
    4) Cat---doesn't bring the defensive intensity all the time, but can when he feels like it.

For defensive stops, I would like to see this lineup:

Mooch(hate to say this, but he is better at D than SF)
    Hawk
    Posey
    EG
Yao (his D still needs work, but his size is a deterrant to ppl driving towards the rim..

our D still needs some work, but is better this year than previous years.

The best defender on the team is James Posey because not only is he a good one on one defender; he can cause problems for his man offensively, make him take a bad shot and box out and get the rebound better than anyone onthe team, although ming is cathing up.;)

posey and hawkins are tops right now with the edge to james because he's bigger and stronger. hawk played great ball earlier but doesn't have the rebounding or scoring ability that posey can also bring. believe it or not cat is almost up there with them. he doesn't have the height but he can absolutely shut down a drive as well as either of them and he to gets his hands on a lot of balls. had a 3 block game earlier.

kt was our best big man defender by far, but i'm still very happy with getting posey. eddie is our best weakside defender but his man-to-man still sucks ass against most opponents. he has moments though like shutting down rasheed earlier in the year. mainly it's a strength issue and youth.

James Posey and Joaquin Hawkins are both excellent defenders. I like Hawk better, but Posey is bigger and has longer arms. I just like Hawk better.

Eddie Griffin and Yao Ming are good defenders as well. Eddie Griffin has a good skill at shotblocking. Yao Ming may be an average defender but he is slightly bigger than everyone else. That makes him a good defender and changes or prevents most easy shots.

Cuttino Mobley is also a good defender with very long arms. If he was a little taller, he would be even better. Francis is an above average defender as well but not outstanding like Gary Payton.
Glen Rice...may be old but he is a veteran and still can guard people. At least that is what coach says. He can't keep up with most players though.

Cato is always improving. I read some past posts about putting Cato at Power Forward. If anyone viewed the game yesterday against the Twolves, Cato didn't have a chance against Kevin Garnett. I'm sorry, but he just can't guard them. Well Kevin may be too good. He may be able to handle some slower forwards like Robert the Tractor Traylor of the New Orleans Hornets.

I would say our coach is good at defense. The Rockets as a team are doing very good on defense this year. I give the coach a B+ in defense so far.
