8 million dollars is an awful lot of money for a guy we assume will be as effective with starters minutes as he has been with 10 minutes a game.

If the Bulls really are matching, it shows they think more highly of Asik than Morey. Because they really have to revamp that roster if they actually don't want to pay more than that contract in luxury taxes later on.

They're probably looking at it as 2 years of MLE money to figure out what to do before that 3rd year. Noah & Boozer with a lot of years & money left.

Wasn't someone saying that the team that matches the contract can't pay Asik the way we were? As in, they would have to disburse the payments evenly over 3 years? Or is that just their cap hits that would be disbursed evenly?

They have more than a few years to compete. Noah, Rose, Deng are all young. Only Boozer's old, and Thibs don't even play him much down the stretch. If anything, as Rose's injury may keep him sidelined for well into next season, the Bulls should most certainly think down the road.

I think Asik is just another future asset like Camby, but can contribute to any team and will improve a lot with more minutes. We now have to think like Morey.

Cap hits would be evenly for Rockets. Cap hits for Bulls would be I believe around 5 mil, 5 mil, then 15 mil for Bulls. Actual payments would be the same for both teams and the same as the Bulls cap hits.

i agree, especially since they arent in contention this year. I say they resign asik, trade away noah (maybe) and amensity Boozer at the trade deadline or Offseason next year. Next year Rose should be 100% and make a splash in free agency for a PF, I believe Josh Smith is free that they can go after. They can even get Brand this year if they wanted... they'd have more cap flexibility.

Would not be surprised if we hear Noah's name in a ton of trade talks this whole next season. Of course they would like to keep both players if Rose was healthy enough to be in a "win now" mode, but more than likely they will try to do some re-vamping to their roster this season while Rose is out. Would not be shocked if both Noah and Deng were moved this year.
