Besides the fact that he would most likely resign with the Lakers to get the most money he can, we are only one of FIVE teams he listed as interested in signing with. I'd rather trade for him and guarantee we get him rather than take the chance that he chooses us out of the others to sign with. It's not like we were the only team he said he wanted to go to.
^^^^ This. The only way I see the Rockets getting Bynum is if Howard gets traded to LA & LA trades Bynum to Houston. Orlando would then get several young guys & draft picks from Houston...
Completely agree with you. Just go with the young guys, give them experience, get a high draft pick next year and sign Bynum in 2013 FA. It seems that there are bad feelings between the Lakers management and him and it's not like he will need the extra money from the "bird rights max", so no need to push for a sign & trade then. Anyway at this stage of the negociations, Morey can get a lower price now for one of the two, no need to package more than one and only one of our young guys. The bulk of the trade should be lots of future picks and absorbing bad contracts, that's where the wealth of partially guaranteed & unguaranteed contracts recently acquired enter into play.
Forgot to add... My MAIN reason for thus is that I do not want to lose our best young talent for Bynum or Howard. I have stated several times that they are both an injury risk, neither have a good attitude and Bynum in my mind is not worth the max. He is not a franchise player! He averaged 16 & 9 in 37 minutes this yr in the playoffs!!! BUT if they are going all out I hope they find away to do it without sacrificing the future. Anyway it could get done with a pkg similar to this... Martin and his expiring deal Patterson Morris Two 1st rd picks next yr ( ours and TOR ) Two future 2nd rd picks The lakers can add a pick or two. But If they ask for anything more from The Rox I pass! Bynum is not worth more than this!!!
Devil is in the details I guess. I think Howard is a special player..the kind of player you have to have to win a championship. He's clearly the best player at his position in the game. Because of that, I'd give the Magic anything they asked for. But with Bynum, I'd count the cost. Even what you're offering sounds too rich for me to acquire Bynum. I'm not against bringing in Bynum...but: 1. I'm not thrilled with handing the Lakers the best center in the game to go along with everything else on their roster...that idea disgusts me; and 2. I wouldn't give up nearly what I'd be willing to give up to end up with Dwight. LA better do the heavy lifting if they want Howard that bad.
get bynum anyway possible i dnt wanna be **** anymore kobes been holding him back he just wants to be the center of attention
Given the inability to do sign and trades for the true max now, waiting for free agency would be foolish. Who is the last max free agent to move to another team not via sign and trade? You would be foolish to try to sign Bynum in free agency, rather than trading for him. Trade for him, it is 95% he stays. Free agency is about a 5% shot.
There's no way in hell bynum is coming to the rockets. And, do we really even want him considering his history of injury problems?
I started this same thread last night and got crucified lol I agree myself, sign bynum outright and keep our picks and players if possible.
tbh, this is a terrible line-up. Bynum would get destroyed by faster SFs / foul out quickly trying to defend them, and I don't know if Asik can defend the Bosh / Nowitzki / Kevin Love type players in the league.
Id rather keep and develop my young players this year, get the high lotto pick next year and add bynum than gift wrap howard to lakers. If orlando wanted to trade howard to lakers, they don't need the rockets at all. Why in the world the rockets would gift wrap titles to lakers is beyond me.
Like it or not Houston is considered a mid market team. Rockets need to build thru the draft and then add key players thru trade and smart free agent signings. The reason the other Texas teams have won rings the past decade is because of their drafted superstars (Dirk, Duncan, Parker, Ginobili). There are no shortcuts to a title unless the team is located in a market where the young, hip NBA players want to be (NY, LA, or Miami). If Morey deals all the assets for a Dwight or Bynum then how is he going to add talent to surround them? Free agency is such a scam. All of these overpaid restricted guys are getting matched anyway. Play the young guys, take the developmental lumps, and collect a possible top 5 lottery pick next year. Next year's draft is not deep but there could be 3-4 potential franchise players at the top if Wiggins reclassifies. Noel and Cody Zeller could both be franchise type centers. Shabazz could potentially be the top SG to come out in years. Now if a Bynum type should come available in FA and wants to play in Houston then Morey should jump at it. In the meantime don't throw all your assets at a player when it leaves you with no other means to build the team around that said player.
I can't believe this many people want Bynum over Howard. You guys need to suck it up because no one wants to play here. I know a lot of you got your feelings hurt from Howard, but he won't walk away from $25 million. His shoe contract would go down if he signed with any of the other possible teams including Atlanta. Bynum said he would play in CLEVELAND and HOUSTON because he knows those teams have nothing to offer the Lakers in a trade (especially now that they have Nash). He wants to sabotage the Lakers trading him to the Magic. If we do trade for him he would re-sign because all he cares about is money and getting more shots.
I would rather just build up from the draft. Dwight would only be here for a year and if we got him, we'd lose all of our pieces (draft picks/role players) to build around Dwight. Same thing goes for Bynum, though we may not lose "all" of our pieces we'd still be stuck with only one star who may not sign with us afterwards. The only way we could build around one of the above big men is to sign others in free agency. We all know that free agents flock to Houston... The next few draft classes will have some really, really good players coming out. If the Rockets can just position themselves (top 5, multiple lottery) in these next drafts, we could build that way and become a team like the Thunder. I'm not saying a Kevin Durant-type star will be in one of the next drafts, but saying we could draft the future stars of the NBA much like the Thunder did by drafting Durant, Westbrook, and Harden.
YOU SAYING HE WILL ONLY BE HERE FOR A YEAR DOES NOT MAKE IT SO. And tell me, what are we losing? Do we have a championship team? Do we have a chance at a star any time soon? You need a star to get stars, that's the buddy system.
Building from the Draft is a crapshoot You have a chance to get Bynum or Dwight Howard, and you would say NO... REALLY
Disappointed that dallas got kaman. Bynum is damaged goods mentally since phil jackson left. I actually think kaman might have been better.
