I think the game vs. Wolves tonight was second time in last week that he shot 3 for 10. What's going on?

I am not concerned as long as Rockets keep winning. You guys have too much expectation from Yao. He won't like it.

Agree. Look at SF, he tried the first field shooting before the end of the 1st half. Should he shoot more for more points as usual?

It is meaningless if Yao is the field goal percentage leader or SF is the points per game leader while ROCKETS can not make the playoff.

Have to agree with cmellon and eug...
Also, a few games back Yao was struggling with rebounding, but managed to recover. I am sure he will recover from poor FG% just like he did with his rebounding. Then, guess what comes after the recovery...consistent double-double! ;)

Yao just isn't good enough. Simple as that. He had a few good games early on, but his true stats are starting to show. Any comparisons with Shaq must now be way out of da window.

:p Yao missed the preseason & trainning camp; I think he is working on his rebounds during these games. He is shooting percentage can come back anytime he wants it.

But then again, your guess is as good as mine
    :p

According to the Rox's medical doctor, YM is hitting the rookie wall officially. His body is in a state that he can not control. He will be examined again in two weeks.

This got to be a joke. Yao played professional games for several years and hit the rookie wall now?? I believe his skills and stamina are still there. It is just that he needs to adapt to the new NBA environment and works together with the team to figure out the best chemistry.

The trolls in this thread, I'll ignore. To everyone else, let's not get too concerned with Yao's FG %. Didn't he just shoot 6-9 a couple of games ago, and 5-8 the game before that?

The problem is that he had got his % up to 60-70% early in the season. I think too many of us expected that to last.

The Rox just need to concentrate on continuing to feed him in the low post, and I would guess his FG % will end up somewhere between 55-58%, just like Shaq's. The only difference being that most of Shaq's points come off knocking people down for dunks.

I have noticed that almost every shot he takes lately, has been a turn-around fade-away jump shot. I would like to see him go to the basket more that fading away. He has a great little hook shot and a quick first step. I would love to see him use those more and get closer to the rim than farther away. Go Rockets!!

every player hits a streak of low % games. What is interesting is that the shots he is getting are easy, wide open shots. He is still elevating and has the moves, so do not panic...they will fall again, because he is still getting the looks....just not going in as usual...I mean come on..he is missing point blank layups.....

He did that sweet hook in the middle of the lane last night. Swish!:) Sweet as hell...
He needs to go to using that far more than he should use the jumpshot.

    Don't stress over his percentage..
What do you expect? He is being pushed out of position frequently....

I even thought previously that he should be able to keep up 65-70% shooting all the time. Realistically, he probably won't keep that high of a shooting percentage till next year.

Why do some of you people keep ragging on and on about his shooting?
Players have bad shooting games from time to time, it happens to everyone. He will pick it back up, you guys just need to be patient.

There is a definite trend to Yao FG%. I've even changed the link in my sig to reflect it :)

Seriously, though, if you visit the link, you can his FG% over time on the bottom graph. It is gradually falling, but it's still nicely above 50%, and that's where I would expect it to stay. Yao doesn't take the type of shots that'll allow him to consistently average over 60%, there's too high a degree of difficulty.

GB, didn't see you in chat last night. did you get to see the game?

If so, do you think that Yao has a quick enough first step to be able to sweep across the paint with that hook shot of his consistently? After seeing how easy that looked, I feel that shot could be his main go-to shot..

Want to know how many games I've seen this season?

    0!!!

Last year, I paid $16 a week to receive a video tape with two games each week. I resigned from my old job six months ago though, and couldn't justify £40-£50 ($60-$70) a month to see the games. I've just got a new contract, so I'm going to start getting the tapes again.

Mind you, I haven't been in chat for a couple of years (it's just too late in the evening over here). Are you confusing me with GB_Rocket? :)

Nothing like ESPN at all over here. There is the odd game on digital satellite, but I don't have that :(

Damn, thats harsh..sorry to hear that. :(

I may have a solution for you in the near future.
I'm getting my capping/ripping techniques perfected, and when I do, I'll put the Rockets games that I record on an ftp server and let interested Rox fans like you download them for watching on your computer...I'll be sure to let you know when I get it setup..
