-Lets say we get Dwight, but we lose our youth and picks, but we end up getting Dwight on a multi year contract extension, but woule take maybe a year or two to get him the right players to surrond him with. or -Three or four of our youth players(Donatas(sp?),Lamb,White,Jones,Parsons) get a breakout season at the same time and surprising all our expectations,we show alot of promise as a team in the future, but would take 2-4 years with more picks and our players getting better as a unit to be legit contenders in the West and the rest of the NBA. So im curious Rockets fan. at the end of the day which one of the two would you be more happy, excited about, and more passionate about and be like yeah the Houston Rockets thats my team. This is our team, our Houston Rockets. Personally I love to see our Rookies and youth pass expectations and be legit, and I hope that comes true.
id prefer the rooks, but the chances of them all having breakout seasons is pretty low...but u never know.
even if its one Rook like Lamb breaking out and Parsons even going further, that would be great you know? I would still go that route and it would make me feel so good to be a Rocket fan.
bottom line is that IF we land Howard we make a strong playoff push and he still bolts for Brooklyn, yes I am accounting for Hakeem's help and persuasion. Or we don't get him and we play the young guys and look towards hte future now. My reasoning is sound, bu tlogic is crazy when I still hope we land Howard for rent and hope for the best.
Whichever wins a championship. I don't care how, but that should be the end goal. Not making the playoffs, not being competitive, but winning it all should be the end. The means to that matter to me not one single bit. I would even be happy going the Heat route and going Superfriends style. Whatever gets you back to that I'll take.
I'd gladly accept either of those scenarios - but I can't watch us run on the mediocrity treadmill any longer. If we can't get Dwight, then PLEASE let us rebuild from the ground up. I don't care how bad the 2013 draft looks. If we can't get a star via trade or free agency, the only route left is to draft one. I like our chances of managing to do that a lot better if we're picking in the top 5. And I know some of you will ask, "but how many years are you willing to watch the Rockets lose to find that star?" As long as it takes.
Man honestly, ill feel like so dissapointed if we win a chip and its with Dwight whoever comes along. lol that isnt Rockets tradition if that makes sense? I was born in 94 so hearing stories about Hakeem and Malone and how great they were was just amazing made me proud to support the team. Nowadays just fans care about winning and getting it ASAP. you cant savor something you dont work hard for. when I think of Rockets I think of hear "Never underestimate the heart of a champion" or that moment when you see that one player get his first ring. I guess I made this thread to see what makes a true Rockets fan. The Fans from the 80-90's who have seen the greatness and appreciate everything about those squads and the fans from the mid 90's who wanted the ring so bad and try to assemble a super team but didnt work out. and the team from 00's-08 who have just seen our two stars get injured and just knowing that from sucking to being great/amazing/championship worthy from 04-08. and now to me at least its hard to tell what fans really care about Rockets tradition, legacy, and care for the players all 15 of em.
If you can get Howard to commit to a multi-year extension deal, that should be the only way to go. Because imagine if our rookies DID actually break the mold, and develop into amazing basketball players within 2-4 years. That's the time around when their rookie contracts are up, and other teams entice them with max / near-max deals. And watch us end up losing our rookies. Go with Howard.
initial response to your question.. playing Marcus Morris a ton of minutes, hell all the rooks for that matter, and trade all vets i.e. Scola
I'd prefer D12 - happy with a multi year contract with the rox... but that aint gonna happen - even if we do aqcuire him... so bring on the rooks!
everytime I try to reply to this thread I get cut off.. it's like my words are hacked or erased just before I can post.. go for DH... gut the team to do it.... stop, b****ing about DM not getting a superstar.. gutting the team saves face for Less the owner and DM even if they Rent DH for one year. The tank people are happy... the get a superstar now people are happy... the lets win now people are happy..... and if DH leaves... guess what?? we get to really and truly rebuild the Rockets in two years to get us back to where we are right now or even better.
a time machine to blow this thing up at the start of last season, and get us 12 months down track of the getting worse before we get better stage
How about another Howard?!...Josh Howard Josh Howard used to give the Rockets a hard time back in the day when he played for Dallas. He put up 8 ppg with the Jazz this year although he played garbage minutes for them. That 8 ppg matches his rookie ppg. I'm sure he's probally gonna land somewhere. Hell, it might as well be here. IDK?
What would make me happy? Not getting the 14th pick AGAIN! Either make some moves that put us in the playoff picture or tank for a high draft pick. I'm sick and tired of being the best team that doesn't matter.
