Smart move by them, IMO. Even from one year of Howard, they will go very, very deep into the playoffs. Los Angeles is an easier sell than anywhere else for Howard to stay, so they figure he'll be likely to re-sign when the time finally comes especially after seeing how much damage they did the year before.
