We all know that Yao has a very HUGE potential. Most people said they wouldn't trade yao for anyone in the league cuz they believed yao is the future. But there were also discussions about whether yao's peaked or not in this forum. Personally, I'm 90% sure that yao hasn't peaked. He's still adjusting w/ his teammates and as he gained more NBA experiences and more strength, he'll be dominating sooner or later. But there are also other problems he has to face like new culture, new language and stuff. Having said all that, my question is ... Suppose Yao's peaked already. And 10 yrs from now, he'll still be playing at current level. Knowing that he's peaked, will you consider trading him for Tim Duncan or Shaq (or any top players) now? Also will you still be yao's fan as much as you are now? Any one??
Are we going to have to endure "has Yao peaked" posts every other week? After 6 posts, have you peaked?
This "Yao has peaked stuff" is some of the biggest non-sense that I have ever seen. It is hard to believe that any basketball fan can see a 22 year old player play only 30 games and sincerely conclude that we have already seen the best of that player. Yao has had an astounding learning curve for a good stretch of this season. He want from averaging 4 pts and 4 rebs to 17 and 10 in a relatively short period of time. What is happening now is, defenses are gearing up to stop him. They know his tendancies. They are being extra physical with him. This is all part of the learning process for Yao. He has to adjust to what he sees now that there is a book on him. For someone to say that he will no longer be able to learn or adjust, is just asinine. Personally, I am excited watching Yao nowadays. I love to see players grow and adapt, as I am sure Yao will. It takes time.
I think everyone here (except windandsea) has misunderstood the purpose of my post. This is not a "has Yao peaked" topic at all. If you read my post again carefully, I said I never asked anyone whether yao's peaked or not; that's not the question. I apologize if that's because of my English. I am a Chinese student who came to America to study, so my English is still somewhat limited. I was asking SUPPOSE you know that yao's peaked, then would you wanna trade him? It's a hypothetical question. I am just wondering if you are a yao's fan because of who you think yao would be in the future or because of who yao is now.
no trade.. because even if this is the best yao gets, he's still in the top 5-6 centers in the league right now (and i don't think the rockets are even close to using his current skills to the best benefit) and having a number 5-6 center for next 15 years beats a number 1 or 2 for next 3-5 years... now if this was another position (where the dearth wasn't so apparent) then maybe yes for duncan...
Yao peaked? Did Shaq, the Dream, Ewing, Robinson, Kareem, Russsell, Wilt, and on and on and on peak at 23? Fact is that ALL big men take longer to develop, reach their maximum potential than any other position. He has the skills so now it's just a question of how hard he'll work on his game. Right now teams have seem his game and have adjusted. Now it's his turn to figure out how to adjust to the adjustments and add to his game. I'd say there'd be a bigger risk of him bolting to another market down the road, like LA when Shaq's contract is up, than of him having peaked. Duncan for Yao. As a Spurs fan no thanks. Duncan is playing at peak now and will be for several more years. I'll take reality over possibility.
Anyone who thinks Yao has peaked is very foolish. Obviously, nothing is 100% certain but I will take on a wager up to $500 that says that Yao will have a better year next year (based on stats) than this year. 1. As people get older, they generally gain weight 2. As Yao plays more, he will get more touches 3. As Yao plays more, he will have better stamina. REMEMBER: he is only averaging 25 min or so still this year! 4. As Yao plays more, he will become more consistant. Look at the good games he is able to produce. 25 pts +, 13 rebs +, 3 blks +, 3 assists +.
That was exactly what I thought before I read that "Yao Ming might has peaked" thread a few weeks ago.
Everything about this thread is stupid. 1st - He's 90% certain that Yao has not not peaked. Then why bring it up. And yes, it's assinine to think a 22 year old with 30 games under him has peaked unless he's a lazy mf, which he isnt. 2nd- Assuming he has peaked, would we trade him. Once again another stupid premise. If he has peaked, who could we get for him. Why would anyone trade their frontline player for a guy who's not going to get better. And more importantly, how the hell would anyone know if he's peaked or not - we wont know this for years. 3rd- Assuming he's peaked are you still his fan. This is the most annoying part of these type of threads. These Yao only fans and their annoying "What would you do if Yao Ming is No Good" topics are tiring because there's no point. If he sucked, he'd be sitting on the bench. What else is there to discuss?
Suppose Yao' speaked.........? He speaks all the time! And half the stuff he says is hilarious. And shouldn't it be spoke? BTW, I know.
Yao has peaked? that's nonsense...he's only been in the league for 2 months....not even one season......and you guys said he's already peaked..... That's BS..... whoever post this thread.....get a life
I am really surprised by the overwhelming number of people in this forum who 1. don't understand English or 2. don't read the post carefully before posting a reply 3. have so bad attitude
MYOTUNERIC - Don't be offended. You'll find knee-jerk reactions like this in almost every thread on the board here. The reason your thread has garnered them is because regardless of what you're asking, it's been asked before about Yao at least two or three times on this board. People have stated that he's peaked, asked if he's peaked, pretended as if he's hypothetically peaked, forecasted where he might peak (for every year for the next ten years), flatly denied that he will ever peak, etc, etc. Therefore, despite your question, just by putting "Yao" and "Peak" in the same sentece/topic, the thread was essentially doomed.
