Why wouldn't it be? If dragic falls off the face of the planet and is making 8+ mill the last year of the contract..The Rockets wanna be able to cut ties and not have him opt in the final year of his deal when hes playing like garbage or injured.
what's daryl's history with player options? I think he just doesnt like giving players control... As for the OP, sounds cool, but he basically just told you what we already know. Perhaps you didn't realize everything he said to you was already on clutchfans, it's nothing new. I'd probably still be upset as a season ticket holder. He can't guarantee more moves or what kind they will be.
No, Gogi got a player option from the Suns. JLin has a team option for the 4th season. Big difference... One contract is in teams favor, the other completely in the players favor. The team is the employer paying the big bucks.
you are talking morey here who's giving lin 15M in his 3rd and 4th year don't tell me those two years are team option
Thanks, this makes sense. Still, for an organization that is so risk averse, to let Dragic walk over that and trade Lowry the following day despite only having a slim chance of retaining JLin, this series of events seems rather bizarre from the outside looking in.
No player option? Man, DM really really REALLY values flexibility. This day has been a sad one - glad you talked with DM Dream - that is cool, but I have lost all faith in Daryl Morey and Les, I think they care more about making money than making the team better. This offseason has been a disaster so far, and his own plan has been a terrible one from the get go - if we somehow end up with Dwight, I just get the feeling that he won't stay here anyway, and we would just flip him onwards like everyone else. Sigh. DD
To be a All Tie Great in the world of Lying, you need to have an air tight story... The other part to this, besides the obvious Morey can read minds and still answer questions part, is the obvious lie of the GM for the rockets over the phone, not knowing if you are a reporter or whatever asking a question about supposedly GOING AFTER HOWARD and he tells you yes? YOU? So now the GM is just saying &^*% it and passing out Rockets personnel strategy to any and everyone calling them up heh? PS... I loved the Jedi Mind Trick part...that is the stuff of legends man....
What he was saying is basically he's going after howard, or j.smith or any other allstar he can't. So, indeed were not tanking...yet.
The whole point of planning ahead and having cap flexibility is shattered with player options. You are at the mercy of players.
Cool that you got a personal response from the man who has his pulse on all the changes. Not surprised by the honesty from Morey. He is a standup guy. And when asked, he'll answer truthfully. They know we want to win and they too don't like finishing second in these major trades.
Player options limit a team's ability to project long term. Especially when it's the size of Dragic's contract. Hard to make clear decisions when you're not sure whether you have $16mil under the cap as opposed to $8mil under the cap. For a player of Dragic's caliber, I absolutely believe this can be a deal breaker. For Dwight Howard? IMO Morey will give him as many player options after the 3rd year as Dwight feels like.
Morey sounds like a very nice guy, and most of the Rockets team are nice guys. and thank you dreammvp, at least letting Morey know our frustration, lets hope good things are gona happen soon.
