Crazy analyzing the financial dynamics of a soccer team. Basically your stock gets annihilated if for example they fail to make the champions league (because they lose tons of ad revenue)

Needless to say, I'm definitely going to buy some for ****s and giggles provided its priced reasonably.

Manchester United has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to list Class A ordinary shares on the New York Stock Exchange. The world’s most valuable sports team listed a placeholder value of $100 million for the offering; it didn’t say how many shares it will sell or at what price. The soccer club had originally planned a $1 billion IPO in Singapore last year, but those plans were put on hold due to unfavorable market conditions.

The team’s SEC filing lists revenue in the nine months ending on March 31, 2012, of £245.8 million, a 6.1% increase from the same time period the previous year. Operating expenses increased 9.4% in that same time frame, from £185.5 million to £203 million.

Forbes estimates that Manchester United is worth $2.24 billion, $385 million more than than the New York Yankees or Dallas Cowboys, which tie for second on our list of the world’s most valuable sports teams.

The F-1 Registration Statement lists Jefferies, Credit Suisse, J.P. Morgan, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank Securities as underwriters of the IPO. Morgan Stanley had originally been involved, but it backed out after disagreements over the team’s value. The Glazer family, which owns the team, felt that the Red Devils were worth approximately $3 billion, a figure which Morgan Stanley believed to be too high. Jefferies took Morgan Stanley’s vacated spot.

Malcolm Glazer and his family have a net worth of $2.7 billion, and they also own the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which are worth an estimated $981 million.
