yeah, we are blowing it up. we tried to go through free agency to acquire a franchise player but did not succeed. my take on it is that, les did not want to tank at all costs which would cost him a couple(possibly more) of seasons of lost revenue. but now he has no choice, there are no stars coming to houston- that debate is done with. for 3 seasons we have not made the playoffs, and that has hurt the rockets tv ratings and following. this team was once houston's favorite team, and now the texans have taken that spot. i prefer basketball over football personally, and would like to see the rockets back in contender-ship status. i think we all would like that, which is why les said "F it, lets blow it up!" i for one think the organization has handled the situation fairly, although i think that they should have opted to tank a bit sooner. although like i said, les probably did not want to take this route because tanking is financially risky. morey already has stated that rebuilding through the draft is easier, do yall seriously think they never contemplated blowing it up?
I think Morey is really going ALL IN! He will trade for Howard...then flip some other assets for Josh Smith and Rudy Gay or some other all-star. Even if Howard leaves...it still leaves us Josh Smith and Rudy Gay or whoever Morey trades for.
why clear out the roster for lin? I mean Lin couldn't even last an entire shortened season...so what makes you think he can last 82 games. If the coach thought he was a bum and cut him during last year's training camp then you have to go on first impressions because Lin has to fit McGale's system.
NBA 2K13 is going to be weird ... don't gonna recognize the Houston Rockets team anymore, with DM's moves.
Who's starting for the Suns? Not Brooks. All I'm saying is that Lin just might not be as good as his meteoric rise. At best, it's a lateral "move" with the lateral move having far more unknowns.
Quit drinking the Kool-Aid. For all we really know, Les wanted to blow it up after Yao and Morey has been the one saying, "Not yet, not yet...I can save the day".
via @stevekylerNBA: One Western Conference Exec asked "Why is everyone acting like Houston invented some mastermind solution... those guys getting matched" Ouch.
To those who think the Rockets still have "a ton of assets", consider this: the value of a draft pick is highest before it's made. Once the Rockets made 3 mid first round selections last week, those players lots all value relative to the pick. The pick provides flexibility, while the player has already been rated and judged by every team (except the Lakers, since they fired their entire scouting staff). So what's left? 7 power forwards, 0 point guards, 2 identical shooting guards in Kevin Martin and Ronnie Lamb. I don't see the powerful assets you do.
I don't give a **** about "assets." Any direction other than towards the #14 pick is the right one... and this team is definitely headed in the right direction.
Lowry had to be moved, so I am pleased with that. The fact that we are loaded to the gills with players that can be considered tweeners for the SF/PF position is where the problem is. No doubt they knew as soon as the end of draft night, Howard would be impossible and letting Lee and apparently Dragic walk means, they are heading toward a more rebuild then we would have liked but aside from questionable draft picks and the Terrance Williams trade, I can't fault Morey.
Agreed. By "striking-out" on all these deals, the Rockets are forced to work with what they have. It might not be a move by the hands of the front office, but its a move nonetheless. The Rockets are definitely going to lose a bunch of games, but at least the rookies and young players will see time, which I actually enjoy watching. Much better than the 05-06 season... Rick Brunson, Richie Frahm, Lonny Baxter, Casey Jacobsen, and Stephen Graham anyone?
Moreys "Moves" Miss out on Dwight Miss out on Gordon Miss out on Dragic extend offers to Asik and Lin with no guarantees Miss out on Deron Williams Josh Smith no longer a option Miss out on top 5 pick Miss out on top 8 pick Good moves Morey. Glad you had all of that planned in advanced of this offseason. The sheer genius to think you had the foresight to know you would miss out on all of that. Genius planning.
