I was reading some possible off-season acqiusitions by the cowboys and both of these guys were mentioned. also cory dillon of the bengals might become a cowboy since he was tired of losing in cincy but the cowboys would have to give up their 1st round pick and their QB(not sure which one). do you guys know of any other possible moves the cowboys will make?

How about someone who resembles a blocker. Or who actually plays.(that means YOU, Mr. Allen!;))

i guess you guys heard Parcells set his offensive and defensive coordinator today already. Maurice Carthon is the new offensive coordinator and Mike Zimmer is retained as defensive coordinator.

I don't know a thing about Carthon...other than he has weak career stats from his stint in the NFL as a running back I do believe.

Not to change the subject on you.....

I hope Parcells falls flat on his face in Dallas, and as long as he keeps Carter and Hutchinson at qb, that team will not eclipse 8 wins for the time being.

That said, dealing for Dillon would be interesting because Dallas already has dealt too many picks, but he is a good back.

Davis would only make sense if you have a decent o-line, which dallas doesn't.

Another guy is Lamont Jordan, Martin is untradeable with his contract, and Jordan has proven he can play.

IIRC, he was a fullback, and a pretty good lead blocker.

Not much of a historian are you? Judging by Parcells' last three head coaching jobs he will bring in a vet QB, and have the Cowboys deep in the playoffs in less than 3 years.

Kordell wouldn't be a bad idea. He did go to the pro bowl last year so that alone means he's light years better than anyone currently on the Dallas roster at QB. Not sure if he's really a Parcells' type of player though. As for Stephen Davis ... I hope to God that he's not brought in. Not because he was a Redskin but because his injury history is pretty bad. I would rather they give Hambrick a shot.

As for the coaches ... I think it was a good idea to keep Zimmer. He's done a good job with the defense, and this will allow them to keep the same philosophy which only benefit the players (especially Roy Williams).

I was a little worried about the Carthon hiring at first until I heard that he didn't actually call the plays in Detroit. Their head coach called all the plays.

Whatever happens though I have trust that whatever Parcells does will be the right choice.

I think Stewart would work well in Dallas, but I can't see Davis being traded. As much as Spurrier is a passing man, he is smart enough to know where his bread is buttered. Davis is an All Pro tailback who is too valuable to trade.

Dillon signed a long term contract with Cincinnati a few years ago. He made his bed, it's time to lie in it.

Jordan isn't going anywhere. He's already been dubbed Curtis Martin's successor.

I know what Parcells has done, and that was my dream scenario. I realize he probably works out.

    Drapg,

Davis is getting cut by the Skins as Spurrier doesn't like him, and Martin has an untradeable contract, so you could have an unhappy backup who could be a good starter in Jordan for awhile.

As for Davis, link? I haven't heard that story/rumor.

Martin... I think his best days are behind him. He's got 2 years maximum left. I think Edwards realizes this and will start to use more of a dual tailback combo for the next few seasons. Jordan is just too valuable to trade... perhaps similar to the Smith/Hambrick situation in Dallas.

I think you only bring a veteran running back like Stephen Davis, or Correy Dillon on a team on the verge of a deep run in the playoffs. Running back lose their effectiveness really quickly sometimes, so why tie up too much cap space on an older player at that position?

Two years maximum? With his nagging injuries this year, its no surprise he barely squeaked out 1000 yards. Jordan will be a very good back if he learns to hold onto the ball. I don't think Martin is that washed up yet though.

I'm a big fan of Stephen Davis, but I'm not sure how many more top-notch years he has left. Three? I'd like to think he can go for another five, as he's been very durable over his career, and he's arguably one of the top 5 running backs in the league when he gets the ball. I've not heard that rumor about Spurrier cutting Davis. Spurrier may rebound from this season's disappointing result, but if he doesn't adjust, he'll be asking for his old job back. I forget the actual statistics, but the Redskins had something like an 80 percent winning percentage when Davis would run 25 or more times. Instead, Spurrier kept flinging it around the yard with crummy quarterbacks and mediocre WRs and getting killed. I hope Davis gets cut or traded so he can go to a coach who realizes that running the ball is an important part of the NFL game.

I don't know about Kordell. The thing is, he's so inconsistent. He started out badly, then played well in Maddox's absence this past season. He's so up and down. If I were the Cowboys, I'd inquire about getting Tim Couch or Kurt Warner, or Trent Dilfer -- one of the QBs who may not be starting next year because the backup played so well. That being said, if the Cowboys do get Kordell and Davis, I'd say they are instant playoff contenders, and they could even do well there. I think Parcells would be the coach to help Kordell's consistency, and he'd respect and use Davis' running abilities.

Kordell would help out. He's proven that he can help a team win. But he's not your long term answer. I'd still draft a 1st round qb to back him up.

    Drapg,

    NEWS: December 31
    STATUS: Out
SKINNY: Davis is "pretty much resigned" to the fact that he's not coming back to the Redskins, the Washington Post reports.

He doesn't fit spurrier ball, if the Texans had a semblance of a line next year, I could see him reuniting with Casserly.

I never thought of that DV. It's possible, but Stephen Davis would seem more likely to sign on with a contender. He's prime rib for the contenders. Eagles could probably upgrade. Atlanta could use an upgrade too.

Kordell? He's better than what we have now I guess, but he pretty much sucks as a qb and isn't worth big money imo. He couldn't do crap this year and doesn't have great qb skills. He struggled to get the ball to freakin Ward and Burress.

Plummer would be a better fit I think. Better leader, better qb, and his stock is pretty low right now.

I'd love to for the boys to get Davis but he's gonna cost big $$$.

Dillon isn't worth the pick. If Faulk isn't worth a 1st rounder Dillon sure as hell isn't worth a top 5 pick, esp with the mediocre year he had.

What contenders don't have running backs though?

    NFC South

    NO: Deuce Mcallister
    TB: Possibility with Pittman sucking
    ATL: Duckett and Dunn
CAR: Deshaun Foster is their back of the future and is Carolina really a contender?

    NFC East

DAL: Yes, but are they a contender?
NYG: not with Tiki playing at his level
PHI: Staley has been stellar this year

    NFC West

SEA: Alexander won't be given up on so soon
    STL: Faulk
SF: They love Hearst and esp Barlow too much
ARI: Yes, but not a contender

    AFC East

    Miami-Ricky Williams
NE-Possibility if they soured on Smith
NYJ: Not with Martin and Jordan around
    BUF: Henry is their guy

    AFC North

CLE: Going with William Green and Jamel White for better or worse
PIT: Zereoue and the aging Bus mean no, but a small chance
    BAL: Jamal Lewis country
    CIN: Corey Dillon country

    AFC South

IND: Depends on if they think James is done
JAC: Taylor and Mack are just fine
TEN: Eddie George is still king
    HOU: needs rb

    AFC West

KC: Priest Holmes is their man
    DEN: Portis Power
OAK: Doesn't fit system, and Garner is outstanding
    SD: Tomlinson is a Truck

So out of teams that need a good rb, you have Arizona, Dallas, Houston, TB, NE, CAR, maybe Pit and Indy?

And we have the GM who drafted him, and a coach who wants power football.

    It's definitely a possibility.

Thanks for the info DVauthrin. I'm shocked I hadn't heard that rumor, seeing as how I spend 24 hours a day following sports news.

I wonder what Spurrier is thinking? I wouldn't think he was so hard-headed as to make personnel changes to prove to the NFL that a morph of the "Fun 'n Gun" will work in the NFL. He has a proven commodity in his hand and is surprisingly allowing to let it go?

Just when I couldn't like Spurrier any less, he goes and does something like that.

Davis to Tampa Bay sounds like the best fit to me. I've never been high on Alstott as a feature back or Pittman. I never saw what others did in Arizona.
