Just wondering. This can either be on a school/work day, or weekend/holiday, but please post the other too. School days: 5-6 hours Weekends: 8-10 hours
Not enough. It totally depends on the day. If I have to teach an early class and don't get my preps done early, I might only get 3-4 hours. This semester I won't have a lot of free time during the day, so I'll be forced to try a "regular" schedule. But, you can't go to bed unless your work is done. (Unless you want to get up early and do it... and what if you oversleep...) I do take lots of naps. I should get 7 hours and sometimes do, but not all at once except on weekends. And, yes, it is 4 in the morning now. I was too tired to do anything at 10:00 but it was too early for bed, so I decided to "read in bed" (=naptime) and got 3 1/2 hours of sleep right there. Just as well, because I might as well wait until my husband goes to bed so I can use the all-important Internet connection. Anyone else have weird sleeping habits/non-habits?
One of my teachers in an Insomniac. He might get 2 hours a night if he's lucky. He came to class one Monday and told us he hadn't slept since Thursday. That's got to be rough.
I had a teacher who was narcoleptic my junior year in high school. One time he fell asleep at the chalk board while writing. A couple of minutes later he woke back up and started writing away, right where he left off. I have very odd sleep schedules. When I'm at school, I'll normally go to bed around two and wake up around eight to go to class. Later I'll catch a nap for an hour or two. When I'm home like I am now, and have nothing to do, I sleep twelve hours every night.
Up to 2 years ago, I had to have 8 hours of sleep a day or I couldn't function well the next day. Now I average about 6 during the week, and I try (counting naps and everything) to get 8 on the weekends. I probably should try to get back to 8 all the time, but I find myself wanting to do too many things before I have to go to bed which causes me to stay up so late.
For me it just depends on the situation. I can go ok on between 4-6 hourse sleep. Here is my major problem though. I can EASILY stay away for 22 hours, but I then need to sleep for a good 7-8 hours......and it just doesnt add up to a normal life
i need 7 hours, but i always get awake 5 times after is sleep so i get about 5 to 7 hours. and i sleep less during the week tha in the weekend. i'm a student
About 6 hours, but it is rarely without interruption these days... two kids (one who is teething) and a dog.
Last year I hardly slept at all. I would go to sleep between 5 and 6 and wake up at 8 with no naps. I have gotten a little better this year, and I am trying to become atleast somewhat normal with my sleep habits. One interesting thing that I have heard (can't say if it is true for sure though) is that you are considered legally insane if you stay up for more than 72 hrs straight. If so, I can see why. Last year I made it for about 68 hrs without sleep and really no food (you can't eat regularly and not sleep in my opinion) and by the end of it, I was a mess. I thought music was playing when it wasn't and just weird stuff like that. I don't really believe people need much sleep, but I think that a couple hours a night is necessary
During the school week I'll usually go to sleep around 2 or 3 and wake up between 10 and 11 depending on if I need to wake up and do some work before I go to any of my classes (my classes start at noon). During breaks and weekends I'll usually end up staying up from anywhere to 3 in the morning to 6 in the morning and I'll sleep til between 2-4 PM. I usually get a lot of sleep, but the weird thing is it usually doesn't matter how much sleep I get, I get tired around the same time and I'm never that sleepy. After staying up til at least 5 and sleeping til at least 2 every day of the Christmas break, I went to bed at 4:30 AM and woke up at 10:30 AM and drove 4 hours to my moms house with no problem. I guess I just have really strange sleep patterns. Its strange, because as much as I do end up sleeping, I initially have hard time going to sleep, no matter how tired I am or what time it is. I can go 24 hours without sleep and then if I try to go to sleep I toss and turn for a long time before I finally fall asleep.
I usually get a pretty good amount of sleep. During school, I usually sleep from around 10pm to 6:30 or so. My parents are still strict on when I need to go to sleep, which is 10, so I get good sleep despite me not "wanting" it. (However, I sometimes and able to get an extra hour or so if the Rockets are playing on the west coast or something.) During weekends and holidays, I sleep about 10-12 hrs. I usually wake up about time for dinner.
Waking up around dinner time would be sweet! wish i could do that, i usually go to sleep around 12:30 and get up at 6:30 on school days, weekends i sleep as long as i can, first day back to school from winter break tommorow going to suck
I like to get at least 7 hours, but I've been able to function on as little as 4 (although I'm in trouble if I have to do any heavy reading). One thing that's unusual is that even though I get up for work at 6:30, I always automatically wake up around 8:30 on weekends. Of course, I also usually go back to sleep if I went to bed around 2 or 3.
Once you have kids, say goodbye to sleep until they get older. During the week I try to get in bed by midnight and get up at 6am. On the weekend usually don't go to sleep until 1am or later and get up by 8am. Man do I miss the days when I went to bed at 3-4am in the morning and slept until 2pm the next day, summer vacation ruled! No job, no kids, no wife!
SirCharlesFan, your schedule rocks! Wish I could do that. Actually, since it's been Christmas break, I have been. It's really going to bite when the semester starts; at least I don't have to teach until 9:00 this time, but it's still 9:00 in the freakin' morning. When you're up in front of the classroom, you can't exactly skip or show up late. So it will be back to an artificially early schedule until spring break. I am a nocturnal creature. Getting married didn't change this; it only reinforced it (he's even worse than I am... though we're about the same if I'm on break from work). It's a little past 12 midnight now, and the day isn't nearly over yet, nor should it be. If the rest of the world could only do this, we would all be a lot better off. What scares me the most is the thought of having children. Don't they wake up early and come jump on your bed? And, given how early they start schools these days, they'll have to be trained to do that. And, while we can shift our schedule between weekdays and weekends, semesters and holidays, naps and whatever crazy sleep schedule we want, if we were responsible for kids we'd be wrecking their health by doing that. Growing up... it's just not for me...
well my friends and everyone i know seems to agree i have the weirdest sleeping patterns of anybody they know. i haven't had any sort of regular schedule since my last semester of high school when grades didn't count so i didn't have homework and just fell asleep when i was tired and i pretty much slept 11:30 or 12 until 6:30 every day. 6.5 to 7 hours is pretty much all i need. if i get 8 or more, i just stay up longer than 16 hours and then i start going to bed later and later and getting less sleep until i adjust. i can almost seem to be normal for a week and got to bed at like midnight and then the next week i've completed shifted and am going to bed at like 6 am. one problem is i'm extremely nocturnal so staying up late is much easier than going to bed early. and i have trouble falling asleep so that factors in. sometimes it pisses me off cuz i'll get only 4 hours of sleep and think "good now i can fall asleep earlier tonight and get some real sleep" and then i stay up for like 20 hours (even though i wanna get tired) and fall asleep late again and get no sleep. last semester, i went to bed usually b/t 5 and 6:30 am, but only had 3 days of school so i got like 9 to 10 hours on the 4 day weekend and then just woke up whenever class was (8 am TTH, 12 W) the other days. i very rarely took naps last semester. since winter break has started, i've been racking up the 10 and 11 hour sleep days, it's been beautiful. slept from 2 am to 1 pm numerous times. but MWF 9 am classes await me next semester, dammit.
As an insomniac, I get wierd times to sleep. Yesterday I slept at 7 in the morning. I should have gotten 2 hours of sleep, but my body always ask me to pay up front. Which means I skip some classes... On average, I get around 9 hours of sleep a day.. And on midterms and finals week- 2.
