Hey Crew Long time reader occasional poster. I have been a member here for years and have enjoyed the contributions of so many of the members in regards to all things rockets. While im sure ill get flamed for posting my thoughts i for the first time am going to voice my concerns and ideas on this preseason. Firstly i feel from a team point of view that we are all extremely quick to trash our own players on the team we support. Every year i unconditionally support the rockets and who they have on their roster. IMO at the moment Morey has tried his guts out to get us a superstar. I know he hasnt landed it but no one can question his attempts to. So with that failing he is taking the next option which is get young players to develop. Now as a whole we are whinging about him going after "average" players like Asik and Lin. For mine these are bold plays that if successful will allow us to develop into a formidable team. We only need one or two of the youngens to bloom for us to be a playoff bound team again. Asik to me is like moreys attempt to get Gortat, he has seen something the rest of us have over looked. With Mchales fortay being big men you only hope he can help develop Asik and our other bigs. Secondly while kyle has struggled a bit due to his injury i dont understand why people would want him off the team. He made a statement in the heat of the moment and has been crucified for it. I would love to have him back and rate him as high as dragic and lin. Added to that i think Kmart ( as much as he frustrates me) could be a good role model for Lamb and scola a great example for our new young bigs. In Mchales system both players dont log crazy minutes so those free minutes could be used to develop our young crew. For me we are sitting in a decent postion and should look at the next few years as development and enjoy watching our team play. By the looks of it i dont see our roster being as it is on first game day but if it is we have plenty of options, and players to develop. Thanks for reading Hodg
hodgo, Asik is an above average defender/rebounder for a 7' center. Thats a good move, I agree. Lowry was insubordinate by calling out McHale (his boss) and asking to be traded. That is an irreconcilable offense. That is a cancer and he should be dealt before it infects other team members. Also, Kmart is no role model after his laughing on the bench after blowouts, whining about McHale offensive sets and bad attitude. He is also a cancer that should be dealt. I do agree Morey is doing the best he can with what he has, and I support playing the rooks and looking to add young talent to build on, as well as the draft.
Feel free to post more. I see the Asik move being similar to the Gortat free agency push as well. The only difference is Morey is putting the $ on the line on this one. Im not sure if Asik will ever develop into a Center that can do what Gortat does offensively, but defensively he is all 5X better than Gortat. Still I see some similarities in their value or future value.
I support the team as well regardless of the squad we have but we hear this speech every year. Lin is not the answer and he will only be so good. I don't think morey is a bad gm at all and I don't want to see him go but theres two problems with his "plan": 1) No one wants to play hear, which means the only way we BRING people to Houston is to get better and 2) Our assets aren't as good as our fans and morey think. Everyone says rebuild the OKC way and I agree somewhat but presti got it right on 3 top 5 picks. Thats very hard to do...
Kyle is in such a crap situation. On one hand, he is our most valuable trading piece, on the other hand he is still a borderline all-star pg, with an awesome contract that for for all we know, still wants to be in Houston. Can't imagine what's going through his mind, with all this back and forth with Dragic & Lin, and them getting big paydays. Anyway, I try my hardest to ignore all the fans that overreact to everything and get their panties in a bunch whenever a rumor hits. You never hear anything constructive from them, just the same sarcastic comments and negative bs, crying for other negative fans to agree with them so they feel better about themselves. Although it's tough since they seem to outnumber the sensible positive fans 10:1. Every fan has their opinion on the team's direction, but I'm not foolish enough to think my opinion outweighs the decision making of people who do this professionally and have all the inside knowledge of the NBA. This offseason so far has been a rollercoaster ride, but an interesting one nonetheless. I personally have enjoyed watching the team every year since I became a fan when they took LA to 7 games. Winning the chip would be great, but I get more fulfillment just watching guys like Lowry & Scola giving 110% on the floor and being the underdog.
Thanks for adding in your Op. Listen, as of right now, I take our "situation" over Dallas, that is now going into the long death spiral. I think some of our rooks are going to be better then advertised. Which cuts 2 ways. Come winter trade deadline we may be positioned for a run of some kind. If not, then as you said, let the kids play! That's what everybody seems to be hollering for anyway.
Gortat is another hemisphere from Asik Gortat was a legit starting( dare i say potential all-star) C on the bench, unfornately playing behind the best C in the game Gortat is better than Asik everywhere. No contest I would say Asik( based on his advanced stats). Is probably what Hasheem Thabeet MAXS out too as a player in the NBA( which is not a bad thing). But Gortat is a monster, and we could really use him right now
