It won't stop the Bulls from matching. They will probably match, then trade away some of their players (even without this signing they were looking to move one of Noah/Deng), although in the current state of the league that may prove a lot more difficult than they have anticipated (they may have already found this out as interest in Noah/Deng as "assets" instead of "albatrosses" has been lacking even though Deng made it to the All-Star game).
Honestly if the Bulls match and keep Asik then the only plan is to play our 5 PFs 40 minutes a night and tank. Asik is the only center Morey wants. He won't go after another one.
Read the Insider article - it puts them in a ridiculous bind if they match where they're paying $30 mm for Asik due to luxury tax reasons. I don't see how they sign off on that.
Exactly Morey offered Lee for Asick straight up last year I don't know if they would even think about a backload Like that 15 m in the third season becomes 30 m- thus him and Rose Would be there whole cap in a few years-I.e. restricted FA signs with Hou for 8, 8, 8 24.1m so to speak I think...Bulls can sign there restricted FA by A).matching the offer sheet B). Ceteris paribus the Bulls then would have to cut at least one player, then pay Asick (spelling?) 5m, 5m, 15m! Thus we are stuck with a 7 footer getting wayyyyy too much money MIKE JAMES IN TOR with no trade clause type of money man oh man. Yes I love statistics ...I'm an Economist...and in no way do I think the defensive metrics will tally to be right-he's getting the money bc there is a premium On big men....anyone can get guards or such, so ATM big men are vastly overpaid during contract year-DM is feeding us that to make us think we are getting some stud when in fact it's a bargain big man contract... If anyone would like me to upload a 2009 paper I did in Advanced Metrics on the Regression Analysis of pay during a contract year of about 20-25 Unrestricted FA and Restricted FA ...it's pretty cool to see how much, the contract year (dependent variable)vs. independent variables such as height, FG%, PPG, and others..the contract year is an amazing study if anyone likes that...just a thought for some of the more advanced creatures of the Economic (asset) scheme going on in MOREyball...
first, i don't think the bulls match due to reasons already stated in this thread. if for some unknown reason they decide to pay $8M/yr + luxury tax for a guy to relieve noah for 12 minutes a game... then i'd go after hawes. however, i would NOT go for javale mcgee. stromile swift part 2. you think his basketball iq and work ethic will get better with a new team? guys like that don't change.
That $30m is only if the bulls keep Asik for the 3rd season of the deal. They could certainly keep him for a year or two @ $5m/ year and then try and trade him. That last year @ $15 could be difficult to move. If they truley thought he was that important to them then they could use the new "stretch provision" in the current cba to cut him loose after the 2nd year but spread the cap hit over 3 years. So instead of a one year $15 hit you take a hit of $5m for 3 years. I don't know if they would go that route but it is an option if they can't clear space or trade him by year 3.
There is always 7'8" Tiny Sturgess Here is a random picture of Spud Webb trying to dunk on Manute Bol.

one of these three. I would prefer McGee, but I like Hawes and Kamans game. Any C to help Camby if we sign him back would be great.
Why would they help us? lol But aside from that, we do have pieces at the 2, to trade for Noah. Helps us out by getting a legit 5, and helps them out by giving them an offensive option besides their only one.
Well, it's like I said, they can match as long as they don't plan on keeping either Deng or Noah. I mean, they were looking to dump at least one of Deng or Noah even before Asik anyway. They can always match Asik and trade Noah to Houston for Martin (it's really a PRable salary dump of Noah, getting a SG starter back for a year is just gravy). Rein$dorf will just "try" to re-sign Martin at the end of the year for cheap. If that doesn't work he'll just go to the fans and go "Well, we tried," all the while he was just dumping Noah for the cheaper Asik to save money. Of course, knowing Morey, he probably anticipates this and plan to extort Chicago in this deal, as there is little interest in Noah around the league at his price tag.
Hawes and Hibbert are both better than Asik, i think Morey is stil chasing Dwight, thats the only thing i can think off at this point
