It's about time Morey stops looking for role players and starts looking for legitimate two-way players with complete games.

It's like he's trying to piece together a championship team, one role player at a time.

It is clear that in this day and age, championships are won by having a big 3. If we sign guys like Eric Gordon and Goran Dragic to large salaries, we are guaranteeing that for the next 3 or 4 years, we will not be able to sign any FAs, or even trade for top guys (as we see that nowadays players somehow have a large say in where they want to be traded) and therefore we will not be able to have a big 3. If you look at all of the Big 3 formations, they all started out with having a future hall of famer signed to a max contract, which attracted another future hall of famer, who then attracted another hall of famer (often the latter 2 took smaller salaries, such as ron artest or lebron james)

I would rather stay really crappy and amass good rookies, until we find the 1 or 2 rookies that will attract FAs and/or trades. I am not scared about becoming the next charlotte or sacramento because Houston, for various reasons, is MUCH more attractive of a city then those 2 (tax, history, culture, size)

I think the Scola for expiring and pick deal is put on hold, and could be executed right after July 11th(to create more cap space on our side). If so, we may not need more cap manipulation for this signing and other moves.

Cause those just grow on trees right? Show me a legit two way center not named Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum.

People are busy playing NBA2K instead of understanding the supply/demand market for centers.

I don't play video games. I just think 8M dollars for Asik is ridiculous. I'd much rather we offer Hibbert 4 years/$65M (since Portland offered 4 and 58).

4/58 is the max. But that's apparently too rich for Houston so they passed on him.

Why would Hibbert consider us over Portland if we can only offer the same as them when he has already spoken in public about resentment for us telling him we would send him to the D-league if we drafted him?

Hibbert is going to get matched by the Pacers. Who else is left in the center market that has better value than Asik and we have a good chance of getting?

You can't forget that Asik signed a somewhat ironclad contract with Houston on purpose. He actually wants to come here.

I've never followed Asik's game, but if he's a legit defensive center, then I don't mind the move. How many times over the past couple years have we watched our team melt down in the 4th because other teams were grabbing offensive rebounds over our outstretched arms and scoring second chance baskets. WE NEED HEIGHT! If dude can play a lick of basketball, he's an improvement. I also haven't heard of many players who we want, wanting us back.

Hilarious but true. If the Bulls match you will get a lot of people calling Morey an idiot for not being able to "close."

We need to favorite this thread to see how many people eat their own words when it comes to Asik and this contract.

The guy plays behind someone capable of averaging a double-double per night, they are basically the same type of players (Asik and Noah).

And sometimes you need that 15-20 million dollar expiring to snag up a great player off a rebuilding team e.i. Gerald Wallace to Portland for Pryzibla and fillers.

Just because you see a big number at the end of the contract doesn't mean the guy is over paid, he'll be averaging roughly over 8 million per year throughout his 3 years.

Smart move if I may say so myself by DM, this will definitely pay off when the deal ends.

    Bulls won't match.

Bulls will have 45 Million, 45 million, for three players in 14/15 if they match.*

If they match, they'll have 69.3 million committed to 9 players next year. That's 1 million below the projected LT line.*

    Is he mentally ill?

We were going to send Hibbert to the D League if we drafted him? I hadn't heard that.

Does Morey not understand that the D League is where NBA careers to go die?

Do you not remember that we had Yao Ming and Mutombo at center when Hibbert was drafted?

Apparently, the only guys most CF users want are two-way superstars at every postion. Yes, lets make that happen, and while we're at it. Let's all get them at a bargin pice too. Maybe then everyone will be happy;)
