He can put up 8/10/2 as a starter. Not many can. We'll have to pay more for low supply. He can be at DeAndre Jordan's level, but it doesn't seem like it because he's not as flashy....he could produce a bit more for a bit less.
So he's going to average basically a double-double? WOW, I don't know about that. The guy has been surrounded by some very elite defenders and the very best defensive coach in basketball. I'm just a little skeptical.
Tom Thibeado's system could also be a factor. His system even made Carlos Loozer look like a good defender for a while. Taj Gibson and others benefit greatly from Coach Thibs
RealGM @RealGM Blazers To Make Contract Offer To Omer Asik. Blazers planning to go after Asik as well. Means the price for him could get out of control. 8 million isn't bad but getting into the double digit millions would be beginning to overpay.
I personally have no faith in the rockets to get anything done. With the Blazers making an offer it's looking like were gonna come out a loser on this as well.
Morey treatment on players is starting to bite him in the rear-end. Im sure Omer Asik's agent has had players play for the Rockets, and showed their displeasure

...because McGee is the CLASSIC example of a player who had a decent enough playoff run to get him a payday in the FA market BUT everyone who paid close attention to him through the season(or the rest of his career) knows he's mostly a space cadet on the court. Not only is he not near as good as he seemed from his couple of good playoff games, but some other team will overpay him based on his playoff performance. Happens every year or two. He will make more than Asik and I promise Asik is a much better all around player than McGee despite McGee's size and occasional flashes of athleticism. There was a reason why George Karl had McGee relegated to the bench most of the time.
I would rather have a 24 year old Hakeem Olajuwon on the team and Ann-Margaret blow me while I watched the Rockets win their 10th championship in a row. The Nuggets will match.
This guy's still young enough and athletic enough to develop an offensive game. He's got quick feet and has a mean streak. He is far from a stiff and 8 million is a solid price for him. Anything over 10 is a mistake, though.
While I would normally agree with you but what are our other options at a starting center next year? Greg Stiesma, Javalle McGee, and ummm...(don't dare say Dwight Howard!) Bad contract is somewhat of a misnomer when your team is as a grossly out of balance as ours is. We need someone to play Center who isn't a zillion years old(sorry Camby) so if you Overpay for Asik - that's not terrible given the scarcity of available players in the market. Even if Houston goes cheap on center this year, there isn't a decent one available next year either. I would rather give Asik a few mil more than fair market value for a couple of years given the scarcity of other options.
Needless to say I totally disagree with your assessment. What exactly has Asik done in his limited minutes during the season to warrant anything near an 8 digit per year contract? Where is his upside athletically compared to Mcgee who is by the way going to be attending workouts with Hakeem this summer to apparently enhance his game. I don't understand the apparent hate for Mcgee and the comments about him mostly being a space cadet are unfounded. Basketball is not Rocket science.
