Quote direct from 2012 Texas Republican platform:

"We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority"

I don't think there is any more proof that what Republicans really want is dumb robotic masses than I don't know what is. We really are going to need those independent thought alarms in Texas schools.

Nothing screams "independent thought" like government schools.

Apparently some people in govt. are working hard to undo that. This thread is a good example of that sad state of affairs.

We spend more money on our military than the next 14 countries combined thereafter.

Hightop's folks love it when things like this travesty occur because it strengthens their position - notice how he doesn't come out against it. The trick is to say the government can't do anything right, screw things up, and then say, "see, I told you so," when people get upset. If presuming the result qualifies as Hightop's preferred type of critical thinking that he would have the U.S. adopt instead of that typically provided by public schooling, we are screwed every which way.

Of course the biggest reason for the advancement of science, technology and living standards for most of the people in the world during the last 100 years have been the government supported education systems around the world.

Yet so many people in the US envy the Taliban controlled area so much that they want this country to follow the Taliban and get rid of government supported education system.

The GOP know that they are a dying breed, once those people in charge die or retire, they know that the youth are not going to be like them, so they are taking drastic measures to change that.

As long as there are trust funds, Evangelicals, Fox News, and defense lobbyists there will be a GOP. Heck, I met quite a number of Young Republicans at a political event last week.

Liberals love their monopoly of government indoctrination centers.

Can we get some subjects or curriculum topics to clarify what I'm supposed to be angry about here?

Nothing screams "illiteracy and basic arithmetic deficiency for minorities, women and the poor" like whatever the hell alternative education strategy you're banking on.

And I wonder why healthy and heartfelt yearning for our nation's improvement and future thriving is always equated to "dislike" by your pre-enlightenment crowd. Wait, no I don't wonder that. It's totally consistent actually. :(
