Hakeem Olajuwon Asks LeBron James Critics to ‘Shut Up’

Hakeem Olajuwon famously became LeBron James’ tutor in the post, and has become an unabashed LBJ fan throughout the process. The Dream had a message for the haters after The King won his first NBA title last night, per Fox Sports: “Now, all the critics can shut up,’ Olajuwon said. Olajuwon calls James his ‘little brother.’ The legendary center worked out with James last summer at his ranch outside Houston, showing him post moves. Olajuwon lives half the year in Amman, Jordan. That’s where he was for Game 5, watching on television when it started at 4 a.m. local time Friday. ‘I’m just so happy for him,’ Olajuwon said. ‘It’s so well deserved. It’s so special. I feel so proud to have contributed to his career.’ James won his third MVP award during the regular season. Now that he has added one championship, Olajuwon believes there will be more. ‘He’s an iconic superstar, and he’s becoming a legend,’ said Olajuwon, who won titles with Houston in 1994 and 1995 and both times was Finals MVP. ‘He will only get better. I think he will win many more championships.’ Olajuwon said he plans to call James ‘as soon as possible’ to congratulate him. He talked to James three times early in the playoffs when Olajuwon was in Texas before he returned to Jordan. ‘I just tried to tell him to rely on some of the things we had gone over,’ Olajuwon said. ‘There were so many times when it looked like they might not get out of a series, but he had that determination and confidence level to overcome that.’”

    "...contributed to his career"

    Stan Van Gundy would disagree.

Well after watching a Rucker special last night, he wasn't the first dream, so maybe he's moving to the nightmare side....

Won't help. All this does is give the "haters" more fuel.

I really dislike Lebron for being an annoying narcissist (I know, life is all about what you are, not what you do or say- he's awesome at basketball and so deserves our adoration), but this does take the edge off. Gotta respect Hakeem.

As an aside, I don't see any substance in calling someone a "hater". You're accusing someone of having a negative opinion. That's it. Oh my, burn. That doesn't explain anything by itself.

Respect Dream and his opinion. But I still won't root for LerBon. Do I have to like his favorite vegetables too?

Hakeem is NOT always right. and i find it amusing that lebron needs him to fight his media battles for him.

Congrats on the ring and all but (no matter what dream, jesus, allah says) i am still not rooting for you lebron.

WTF? So basically you're saying Lebron called Hakeem and asked him to defend him from haters like you?

Why would he even need defenders at this point, he just need to flash his ring to shut people up.

Who gives a care what Hakeem says? People that like LeBron are going to like him; people that "hate" him are going to hate him. When LeBron was in Cleveland, there was nothing I or anyone else could say to change the mind of detractors. The Decision, Celebration and his idiotic comments about people going back to their jobs multiplied the "hatred" factor by 10.

Saying "all the critics can shut up" is not the way to accomplish the goal. Vindictiveness is not how you sway opinion. Most mature people understand this. If anything, LeBron and his lovers are the ones who should "shut up" and let his play on the court do all the talking. Problem is, so many of them are just as immature as his "haters". They should stop caring about how others feel or act sensible in trying to change opinion.

Must be frustrating for the Hakeem loyalists and LeBron haters to hear this. Glad I never hated on LeBron and Hakeem is still the best.

Well apparently when Charles Barkley says anything all of Clutchfans goes bananas , so if the greatest Rocket of all time, the one who made Clutch City the city of eternity says something, Rockets fans would listen.

i never said he couldnt do it. so the ring isnt going to stop me from disliking him and his decisions and how he went about getting his ring. in fact i dont have a problem giving him credit when it's due.

if lebron goes back to cleveland and wins a championship or 5 championships then i will prolly be one of his biggest fans but as long as he is on the superfriends team i will never root for him because cleveland deserves it and it would be a classy move.

hakeem even said that lebron is like his little brother. so big brother is going to try to defend little bro when he can. so yeah. show me the ring and i'm still standing here saying "f*** you"

Like most people (on Clutchfans and elsewhere), I don't care what Barkley, Clyde or Hakeem say any more than anyone else. If Hakeem's word is gospel to you, fine and dandy. LeBron is a grown-up and doesn't need Hakeem to make his case. I think that's already obvious.
