With all the random trade ideas, Rockets trying to move up, and "source" threads floating around, I wanna switch things up a bit. I know that Dwight is our #1 target but I really don't believe that Orlando is gonna move him until after the draft. So that leads me to ask who else we should go after with these valuable picks. I'm not asking for specific and random trade scenarios but rather general and realistic alternatives. We have plenty of ammo to get us at least a couple of really good players for what we're allegedly willing to give up for Dwight. I'd love to have him but the fact that he chose to opt in back in Orlando rather than be a God here in Houston tells me that he really doesn't want to come play for us. I'm worried that Morey is trying to get Dwight just to save his job for the short-term and it could really screw us in the long-term scheme of things. Josh Smith, Joakim Noah, Brook Lopez, Andrew Bynum, Marcin Gortat, Andre Iguodala, Roy Hibbert, Steve Nash, Rajon Rondo are all guys that I think that we could realistically add through FA and trades with the money, players and picks we have acquired or will acquire. I'd be stoked to sign Nash, trade for Gortat and Josh Smith. That for example would be just as good as getting Dwight if not better. So please indulge me and play along. Again I'm not asking what you would give up for certain players just which players you think we should/could pursue rather than give up the world for Dwight.
The Dwight plan is still the plan until Dwight is no longer an option (traded to another team or signs next Summer). It will just delay things. Morey will continue to treat all trades and draft picks as assets to offer ORL (now or later) until ORL no longer owns Howard.
See but my thing is what will we do with the picks we have in tomorrow night's draft if we don't use them to trade for Dwight? Any package we offer for Dwight after the draft won't be near as good as what we have at this point. My main point on this is that we need to capitalize on these picks.
I hope not! That team from the OP is not a title contending team nor the foundation to build on. I still say the main plan should be to obtain high draft picks and actually use them for the Rockets and let the kids play. That actually gives me hope for the future and something to actually root for.
It would nice to maybe make a trade with Memphis. They are over the cap and looking to cut salary Dalembert #14 for M. Gasol? Dalembert and Kmart, #16 and #18 for M.Gasol and Rudy Gay, #25
Thanks. These are the kinds of moves and ideas I was fishing for. I doubt they'd give up on Gasol this soon. But they would definitely listen to offers for Gay.
Hibbert and Rondo would be a great combo to build on. I'd take that just as quickly as I'd take a Howard/Williams deal.
The point is Morey would still use them as delayed trade-bait for Dwight -- to land assets of interest to Orlando (a big, a future 1st) and players of interest to Dwight (Josh Smith). That's just an example. Point is: it will be status quo for Morey...asset building to attract a superstar. Specifics: I wouldn't know. But I assume the rumors out there do answer your question... Just stop thinking that any moves at draft day are permanent plans for Morey.
