I am a big big big Rockets fan. I've watched almost every game for the past three years on League Pass and watched all their other games before that when they were nationally televised. However, I'm only a sophomore in high school and don't really know why we hate Pippen. Now I hate and boo Pippen as much as anyone just because all other Rockets fans hate him but I don't really know why.

I think Clutch still has some archives of it. The short of it was that he called Dream and Chucky lazy and said he didn't want to play here anymore. He also said the Michael told him that Charles would never win a championship because he was so lazy.

Here is the quote from clutchcity

"I wouldn't give Charles Barkley an apology at gunpoint. He can never expect an apology from me. ... If anything, he owes me an apology for coming to play with his fat butt. He's a very selfish guy. He doesn't show the desire to want to win. That's my reason for wanting to get away from playing with him anymore because he just doesn't show the dedication. I probably should've listened to Michael (Jordan) a year ago when he said that Charles will never win a championship because he doesn't show any dedication. I was very shocked to see what type of player he was by spending half a season with him. I'm a guy that's dedicated to winning, and I put out a lot of effort on the court. I expect that from my teammates, especially from a guy of his caliber. You know he's not willing to go the distance. There's no reason for me to put my last three or four years at risk of never winning. Charles is definitely one of the guys that needs to show more leadership for this ballclub to be successful, and he don't show that to me. ... He feels that if he gets 10 rebounds and double-figure points, he's done a good job. But that's not what the game's about. It's about defending, being professional and coming to work every day."

Because he stunk, blamed his coach and teammates, forced them to trade him for garbage, and crapped on them on the way out.

Did I mention the $1M in salary Barkley took for a year so Pippen could get $14M and publicly dump all over him?

    Did I mention the wife-beating?

    Next.

I remember the playoff game against the Lakers where he dribbled the ball off himself and tried to blame Barkley for the loss.

    i remember that.

    -inbounded to pippen
    -pippen dribbles
    -pippen loses ball/balls

i think rockets fans could have forgave him for that but he knew that he couldn't be the player he was and starting pointing fingers.

Didn't Clyde say something similar but not on national TV (after Clyde retired)? Yes Pippen was gutless for saying it in public before saying it to Chuck's face but that's almost common place in sports these days. We hate him because he was the biggest bust of a FA in Rockets (maybe Houston?) history. From being the supposed final piece of the Championship puzzle to being compared to Buck Johnson during the season...the guy just didn't fulfill expectations.

No, we hate him not because he played poorly, but because of his sorry personality and his stinking attitude.

Actually, we the fans are pretty easy to forgive a player's performance on the floor, if he shows a change of attitude. Just look at Cato. He's turned from being the most ridiculed Rocket on this board to being an "indispensable" guy in just a couple of months.

Pippen, on the other hand, has never changed his bad character.

    Mobes,

Be careful. Don't become part of a herd of sheep. It's great that you asked why all of the sheep are headed the same way? SP is a Top 50 player. He came in town with a police escort for his parade. He has 6 rings. He has $14M/yr contract. He could have kept quiet and and cashed his check. He enlisted Dream, another Top 50 player, for Breakfast Club Workouts. Barkley, another Top 50, was out all night. SP saw that the coach was lost and ran a loose ship. He wanted out because he wanted to WIN! I've stated before, saw SP at NBA Draft Camp at the college I played for. Saw SP in early years with MJ. Saw the fire for his desire to win. SP is still a veteran leader for Blazer team that is fresh off a 8 game winning streak. Remember Mobes, pride in your work will take you a long way in life.

SP WAS a top 50 player. Ever since he left the Bulls he has given no indication of being anything more than a decent role player with an occasional phenomenal game.

What a trip down memory lane this thread has been!

Damn, and Micheal was supposed to be one of the Chuckster's best friends. Thats pretty harsh coming from one of your supposed friends.

Charles did much more for us than Scottie ever did. I remember when the Sonics had our number every year, and with Charles he helped us win the playoff series against them. Yes, we lost to Utah in the next round but it felt so good to finally beat Seattle.

The guy doesn't belong on that list. As Marbury would say, it's not even close !!!

The only reason he is on it is because of Jordan and the 6 rings Michael earned him.

The guy was awful in Houston. Blamed everybody but himself. Has a crappy attitude. He's gutless. The only thing he can beat is his wife. He's ugly with a low IQ...

any other reasons i missed ?

I'd previously heard MJ make a statement similar to that one when Charles was still in Phoenix. They were being interviewed together and Jordan made the comment in a joking manner. But we all know how there can be alot of truth in jokes.

I'm not a Pip fan or anything but to his defense everyone remembers his refusal to go into the playoff game but does anyone remember that he had the Jordanless Bulls one Mike Renfro-level horrendous call from the Finals in 94? The guy could bring it back then. Our system didn't fit his skills and Pippen b****ed his way out of here (although everything that he said about Charles was true). Clyde said similar things and everyone rejoiced but when Pip said it.......................

I never thought of Pippen as the 2nd best player in the league as he was mentioned by the media. Could Jordan win without Pippen? Probably not. We know for sure Pippen couldn't do anything without Jordan. Pippen is probably one of the most overrated/underrated player in hoops history. He was overrated for his role playing next to MJ and was exposed when he left. He was underrated because he was a great defender and selfish player while playing next to MJ. The comments about Barkley was very out of line and for that reason he is hated on this board. Although the Rockets pretty much had to trade him, i think htey could have sent him back East and got a quality player for him instead of 4 bench players. He has really shown his worth in portland which is stability more than anything. He's not half the player he once was, but to his defense, he's played alot of basketball.

But jumping ship at just the right time, to just the right team, will take you farther. Pippen didn't want to go to the Blazers. He wanted to go to the Lakers, where he could resume collecting rings by feeding off superstars. If he'd gotten the trade he wanted, his defenders would now be bragging about his 9 rings.

Real pride is about giving your all for the team that's paying you. It's about challenging your teammates to do better in private -- and if you must go public, it's about righting the ship, not demanding to be dropped off at a cushy resort.

Dude was one of my favorite players of all time, until... "1.8 seconds."

Scottie Quitten... words never rang any truer.
