This is the only way the Rockets can get a star level player.

I would bet on Gordon due to the fact He's only 23 yrs old. Even with his injury history it's a good bet. IMHO

Gordon is a dynamic young SG.

Rather have Drummond, sign Gordon to pair with Dragic.

    Watch a starting 5 of -

    PG: Dragic
    SG: Gordon
    SF: Parsons
    PF: Donatas
    C: Drummond

Have them play out a full year and move Scola and Patterson to clear up space to pursue a star either next summer or through trade. Unless you can convince me that Deron and Howard would stay and more importantly be happy and not a distraction. Both of them have proven to be little assholes when they aren't getting their way....

If the Hornets don't plan on re-signing Gordon to the max, then why did they even make the trade with the Clippers in the first place? If Gordon leaves, that means they got a 10th pick(in a draft where the pick isn't worth much more than a 14th pick) and a couple of role players. "Basketball Reasons" my ass.

BTW, I don't think Feigen is correct in saying that if the Rockets trade for Dwight Howard, they'll have to choose between Dragic and (maxing out) Gordon. They do have the option of choosing to renounce Courntey Lee instead-- which would seem to be the more reasonable course of action given that letting Dragic go would leave the Rockets with no PG while Gordon and Lee play the same position.

By my calculations, if the Rockets give up all of their picks, plus Dalembert, Martin and Lowry for Dwight, they'll have $9.7 million in cap room even after accounting for empty roster charges and the cap hold of Dragic ($4 mil) and Lee ($5.56mil). The max salary that one can offer Gordon is $12.9 million next year. So they need about $3.2 million more in cap room-- which menas they'd have to choose between Dragic and Lee (can possibly also do something with Scola, but I get the sense they'd rather keep him). If they reach agreements with Dragic and Gordon during the moratorium and are, as Feigen said, confident that New Orleans would not match a max offer to Gordon, they should then renounce Lee and make the offer to Gordon. Alternatively, if they don't think New Orleans would match (or that the Hornets will be at least be somewhat concerned about matching), they can also try to work out a S&T with the Hornets, offering a player or a future pick in return for the peace of mind (which is what ATL did when the landed Joe Johnson.

I honestly think I'd rather not trade for Josh Smith if we could get Goran and Gordon because it would really limit our flexibility. If we could hold on to DMo I'd rather try and get somebody like KG that would be cheaper but would also bring a lot of experience to the team.

All i know is we need someone else besides Goran. Simply getting DH won't do squat for us other than making us the Magic of the West. We need to keep Goran, get DH, and acquire another all-star talent. Gordon, Williams, whoever.

Gordon has a lot of talent and has the potential to reach the all star level, but it's those nagging injuries that is a concern. Remember the days of Yao and Tmac. If we get Gordon we must make an offer for the Phoenix Suns medical staff as well.

Maybe during the season their doctors found out something they didn't like about his knee?

I don't think they were originally planning to be in the great scenario they're in right now. Cap space, Davis, 10th pick. I don't think they want the possibility of Gordon injured again for even more money when guys like Waiters and Rivers are attainable.

I understand its new ownership now, but why wouldn't the Hornets match an offer starting at $12.9 million per year.

Don't get me wrong - his injury history is a concern - enough so that from the Rockets perspective it would be a pretty big contract. But what do the Hornets have to lose? They've got to be thinking 3+ year plan anyway. Gordon was their primary big get for CP3.

It seems like an obvious match from their perspective, absent DWill and Dwight calling up Hornets management and saying make room for us.

Then we need to move Scola, somewhere, as we need Lee as our defensive stopper off the bench, and as a "friend of Dwight." If we move Scola, we free up playing time at PF for DMo and Patterson.

I agree with you. If I were the Hornets management, I'd match the outside max. Not sure why the Rockets told Feigen they don't believe the Hornets will, I merely had the scenario play out assuming Feigen is correct. Of course, if the Hornets are in the "match all offers" mode, there is no way to land Gordon anyway so the whole "cap space" discussion is moot.

No worries, he could share a flight to Europe with Brandon Roy to get the blood spinning therapy.

That they didn't know about at the time of the trade? I assume Gordon went through the physical, and they gave him a full body scan given his injury history.

He was the centerpiece of that entire trade. It seems unlikely that he became even more injury prone over the year that they didn't account for previously.

I'd like to see scola moved in a trade involving either Josh Smith or Pau Gasol as well...

If you look at the Jeff Green ruling that came out today, teams will be penalised for withholding relevant information about the health of traded players. So I doubt Hornets wouldn't give full disclosure about Gordon's knees. THOUGH, this is restricted free agency so I don't know whether they have to disclose the same level of information in this situation.
