Interesting stuff. So basically we would be using drummond for Dwight to bait Williams to sign the max here which could entice Dwight to re-sign the max bonus here? This would be one the riskiest moves in a long while! Morey would achieve God GM status if he could bring Houston multiple years of Dwill and Dwight.

The Kings would end up with 5 PGs.

Thomas had a better season than Lin but without the hype. I'm not sure the Kings would be interested enough in Lowry to give up a higher pick and take on Duhon's expiring contract.

I know the Nets have made stupid moves, but why would they trade for Dwight at the deadline if he doesn't want to stay here? He would just leave for them anyway. Why would any other team trade for a guy they know wouldn't sign back?

To ensure they get Dwight and to be able to give him his 5th year maxed out. After all, if they don't trade for him, we might just make a run and Dwight change his mind and re-sign with us. Nets won't take that chance. If they can get him in trade at the deadline, they'll offer up a trade.

It's possible. At the very least, they can have the salary space to go after Deron Wiliams with a max offer if they were to land Dwight as set forth in the OP. They can let either or both of Dragic/Lee go, trade or even amnesty Scola or make other minor salary cutting deals. It's pretty easy to manage.

IF we get Dwight and after the season he walks -

    - We have to tank, no other option

Well, FWIW their fans seem to value Lowry more than some of us here are.

They seem pretty shocked that you want to give up Lowry and both picks for the #5: http://www.kingsfans.com/forums/showthread.php?46345-Lowry-talk-heating-up-..-Kings-in-the-mix-(ESPN)&p=911040&viewfull=1#post911040

I'm guessing nj takes the risk. Dude only wants to play in nj/Brooklyn. That's abundantly clear.

The nets might make a move, but wouldn't trade anything significant.

    Here's one thing to consider:

If Dwight Howard is traded to Houston (or GS or wherever), does Deron Williams still re-sign in Brooklyn? If Deron does not re-sign in Brooklyn and instead signs a long-term deal with some other team (like Dallas), what reason does Dwight Howard still have to demand a trade to Brooklyn at the 2013 trade deadline?

Thats part of the reason I like the deal.

Is Deron going to sit on his ass for a year in Brooklyn? I think that he ultimately comes here or Dallas.

So, suppose he moves on to Dallas, where does Dwight walk too at year? For less money to boot.

I take that gamble all day, every day.

Do you think that Dwight and Deron are talking about this stuff?

I know a lot of people on this board are sick of hearing about Dwight. The good news for you guys is if he's not a Rocket on draft night then he won't be a Rocket ever. Morey knows the clock is ticking and there is a good chance he will be dealt soon.

The Rockets understand if they can trade players like Scola, Lowry and Dalembert for cap relief and picks it will help land Howard and give us the cap space to win those deals by signing Williams.

After draft night all Dwight/Deron talk should be dead.

Or they actually pull off the Dwight trade on draft night... then the board completely explodes with non-stop Dwight/Deron talk all the way up until D-Will makes a decision.

Pat Williams has a lot of pull in that organization and he's said many times that you're better off letting a guy like howard, shaq type of guys go and starting over. Like pat williams stated, you never get good value. To me, the best thing orlando can do is try to move hedo and richardson and set themselves up to either get better playersz after this or rid themselves of those contracts with howard leaving. Hedo, davis, and richardon = 23m. If they can somehow package a couple of those guys together, they can use that money next yr in free agency.

I think Steve Nash comes into play if Dwight lands in the H.

Man, I come back from work and I read all these rumors about Dwight Howard. I'm sorry but I think this will be another let down. Too damn good to be true. Don't want to get my hopes up.

If all these trades really happen, and we give up courtney lee and goran dragic, we will be able to have enough cap space for deron williams
If we have deron williams, then it won't be a 1 year rental for howard

The only problem is whether lowry + #14 is enough for #5

Dwight will not come to Houston... all this talk since last year and there have been many teams mentioned: Dallas, Brooklyn, Los Angeles (both), Houston... yet we are the only team he has simply ignored, if he doesn't want it, it won't happen.

Well even if Houston could not convince Dwight to sign on after next season, it's not as if the Rockets will end up with nothing. There will just be another Dwight Howard sweepstake at the 2013 trading deadline, with a good chance that the Rockets will be able to trade Dwight to a destination of his choice for some good young players and draft picks.

Hey, the Rockets may even end up with more than they are paying now, if a team thinks Dwight is the missing piece to a championship (Dwight for Harden, Ibaka and picks?) :)
