    Pirlo is a boss.

England looked pathetic, I'm glad they didn't make it. I wouldn't want to watch another game with 8 men defending. Italy's front two in Cassano and Balo were terrible in the first half, they need to work better together, no chemistry. Germany vs Italy should be fun. It's going to be Spain vs. Italy/Germany. I'd prefer Germany vs. Spain, but considering the last game between Italy s. Spain I wouldn't mind watching that either.

I said that *if they played Germany, they would beat them. I never said that they would get past Italy.

In what world would that England team have beaten a German team that is arguably one of the two best teams on the planet when they couldn't even string three passes together against that Italian team????
Except you were just trying to say that for the sake of saying something.
    Useless team.Useless team. Useless team.

To be fair, they lost the whole lineup due to injuries and off-court issues

That lineup that they lost would get out of group stage alone

I was actually cheering for England there - just something I love about the English spirit and culture. Helps that I lived there for a while in the past.

You can't say Italy didn't deserve that. Completely dominated possession and had countless chances. They would have been kicking themselves had they not won that shootout. That's 1 win and 7 losses in shootouts for England (I think I read that somewhere). Unbelievable!...and I thought we (Holland) were bad with penalties.

So it very much looks like a Germany - Spain final. Don't think Italy will be able to do it against a superior Germany, especially considering the tired legs from ET and the additional rest days for the Germans.

History doesn't matter, Spain was irreleveant for centuries and has negative records vs. almost every top team.

Sad loss for England, I guess. Can't say anyone didn't see it coming though.

Boy this is gonna be a bad day at the office tomorrow since I work with English people.

England just isn't that good of a team. They haven't impressed me much in a long time.

I never thought i would say this but i'm happy Italy won, they were clearly the team who actually wanted to try and avoid penalties. They did play attacking soccer.

I do not see Italy beating Germany (altough is schweinsteiger in indeed injured it will be a big blow for Germany).

Italy is our arch nemesis. We always had real difficulties against them. It used to be like...they play like us and know how to win ugly, but they have us figured out. This will be by far our toughest match. I think the chances are 50/50 at best. I'm pretty sure we will play "better football", but players like Pirlo just know how to win. I hope we can overwhelm them with our speed.

I was rooting for England because they're the far easier out for Germany.

Still - I've got Germany 1-0 over the Italians.

I work at one of the Liverpool academies overseas and people are surprisingly upbeat. They all knew the game was lost as soon as it went to penalty. LOL that was kind of sad, but we were proud Gerrard fearlessly slammed it in. Reppin Liverpool.

It's a shame he played so poorly, though. He was nonexistent for large portions of the game. I didn't see him working for the ball at all and he just seemed tired. They should've subbed him out. I know they were concerned about his work load and it showed why. I like him as a player and was pulling for him even if I'm not a 'Pool fan.
