This all must be a hoax. Charlotte was going to match any offers for Mr Miller, or so their all-knowing fans said.

Charlotte was limited to offering about $4 million max, right? The Bulls were far enough under the cap to exceed what Charlotte could match.

Miller will be a good triangle offense center, imo. He can hit the open shot, and he passes well. I know he is never going to an all-star game, but he will fit in well in Chicago.

    Say_Jack,

The only problem with Miller being a good triangle center is that Chicago doesn't use the triangle anymore. The entire coaching staff that implemented it is gone.

Have you guys ever thought of how everyone would view Phil Jackson if he wasn't coaching a team of all-stars? I mean what if he had Vancouver? Do you think shaq, kobe, mj, ect. makes/made him look good? Or could he lead the clips into the playoffs... [IMG]

No. The Bulls still use the triangle.

Bulls Sign Free Agent Center Miller

By DON BABWIN, Associated Press Writer

DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Brad Miller, the free-agent center who spent the last two seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, is about to become the newest member of the Chicago Bulls.

The 7-foot, 261-pound center has signed an offer sheet for a three-year, $12 million deal, the team said Thursday.

Jerry Krause, the Bulls' executive vice president of basketball operations, said the Hornets have 15 days to match the offer but that the salary cap would keep them from doing so.

``He went from an undrafted player to a player who commands attention,'' Krause said of Miller, the former Purdue player who averaged 7.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 17.5 minutes last season.

Miller, 24, hopes to play a minimum of 25 minutes a game.

``Here, I can step up, play a little bit more, try to make a bigger contribution to the team,'' Miller said.

Krause said he expects Miller to be one of four centers on the team. The only center under contract, is Dragan Tarlac, who was the team's second-round draft pick in 1995 but has played in Europe. Krause said he hopes to sign Jake Voskuhl, the second-round draft choice out of Connecticut, and first-round draft pick Dalibor Bagaric of Benston Zagreb in Croatia.

Though he wouldn't address it specifically, Krause's comments suggest the Bulls will not re-sign Australian center Chris Anstey.

Also Monday, the Bulls said they have renounced their rights to forward Dickey Simpkins. Simpkins, a member of the Bulls' championship teams from 1996-98, averaged 4.3 points and 3.6 rebounds over six seasons.

Maybe we could go after Simpkins now that Miller is gone [IMG]

Floyd uses the triangle in Chicago, probably because Krause loves it.

I guess that means we are not going to get him for the exception.

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls on Thursday signed center Brad Miller,
a two-year NBA veteran who has played in 93 games for the Charlotte
    Hornets.

    Financial terms were not disclosed.

    Miller, 7-foot, 261 pounds, averaged career-highs of 7.7
points and 5.3 rebounds in 55 games for the Hornets last
season. He started four contests, had four double-doubles
and scored a season-high 20 points at Denver on Dec. 8.

"We've very happy to have acquired the services of Brad Miller," said
Bulls vice president of basketball operations Jerry Krause. "He's a fine
shooter, a good rebounder and we feel ready to blossom."

Miller appeared in 32 games as a rookie, averaging 6.3 points and 3.1
    rebounds.

I am just happy as can be to see the Bulls using their cap space for the cream of the crop free agents, as Krause said they would.

Where is Roy D. Mercer, or Elton, or Fizer anyway????? Man, did you see the contract Miller got??? I believe he got between 5-6 mil. a year, and a 5 year deal.

    He he!!! [IMG]

They may still TRY to use it, but the original inventor, Tex Winter, is gone. Not to mention the rest of the staff. I think that they would be better served with the players they have to get rid of the triangle and move to a more motion oriented offense. They are young and have a gazelle or two on that team.

Regardless.....I read somewhere that Miller was offered a bigger contract than a 3 year, 12 mil. offer. But it was probably an Aldridge or a Vecsey column!!

Just a minor clarification. Winter did not "invent" the triangle. It is pretty much the triple-post, which has been around forever. He is just the only one who's had success implementing it lately (remember when Dallas tried it, a few years ago? ugh).

You are right Sam Cassell. But Tex is credited with the succes of it, and the different versions, ala with a shooting guard as the focal point, and conversely, the center.

Disclaimer or no disclaimer, this is the wrong forum.

    Whats done is done.

I'm glad we didn't give Charlotte the excemption for Miller. He hasn't proven anything. The only reason he got that money is because Chicago is hard up to spend some of their money. He wouldn't have gotten that contract from anyone else.

What I want to know is how Bulls fans REALLY feel about their "rebuilding process"(its hard not to laugh when you say that)?!

    TraJ,

Can the Hornets match this offer? I guess the real question is whether they can match the years in the deal.

    Just curious.

Just to clear it up, Charlotte could've matched anything up to the league average....They had no capspace to go for more than 3.9 million.....Chicago's deal is 5 years/30million, that's an average of 6 million per year........So a 4 million dollar offer would be enough so Charlotte couldn't match, but Millerdidn't wanna play for the Bulls for just 0.1 million more than Charlotte.......
