LOL but Ivan Calderon is actually Puerto Rican. Hasnt fought in America (NY) since like 2010 and if I remember correctly, the Calderon crowd was actually booing because the fight was so boring. I'm pretty sure the Mexicans aren't paying to see a Puerto Rican, unless he's fighting a Mexican.

Don't forget about Orlando Salido. He knockout Juanma Lopez twice in P.R. and Juan Manual Marquez still has some good fights left in him before he hangs the gloves.

Josesito Lopez with the upset at the end of round 9....wow. Ortiz's corner called it quits on the stool, supposedly Ortiz broke his jaw. The kid Josesito looked good, wasn't intimidated while Ortiz looked like he lost a step from the Mayweather fight. Canelo will take Ortiz if he doesn't clean up.

Damn, it was a piece of beauty. Especially since I started watching at the end of round 5. Lopez has balls

Wow. I'm speechless. That really was a piece of beauty ^. Feel sorry for all the "boxing is dead, I'm never watching boxing again" people (even though they only watch once a year). Two straight weeks of exciting fights. We're talking Fight of the Year candidate for Ortiz-Lopez.

I was very surprised. I thought Ortiz was too big, and being that Jose was moving up, didn't think he had the power in his punches in beat Ortiz. Low and behold, he breaks the kids jaw. Brutal.

Heres the thing about Ortiz. The kid has all the tools to be a star in this sport; He's Mexican-AMERICAN, speaks well, has the look and has an entertaining style in the ring. But the kid doesnt seem to have the mentality that the great boxers do.

He had a broken jaw, it's hard to blame the kid for not continuing. But this is where the corner should step in and stop the fight. Take the heat insted of making your fighter take it. Because it really made him look bad that he "quit" again. If the corner stopped it, I don't think he would be getting all this flack. Gotta save the face of the business, which is the fighter in this situation.

If you didn't see this card, do yourself a favor and find a way to watch. The Soto-Mattysse fight was sick too!

You can wipe that Canelo-Ortiz fight off Sept 15. But word out there is that Golden Boy Promotions plans to put that Canelo fight on CBS. That's right, boxing back on network TV!! Boxing is dead? Well I guess it's 'The Boxing Dead'...

Even worse than his corner calling it quits, Ortiz himself called it quits while his corner was trying to get him to continue. As Angkor Wat mentioned, I think that's bad form on the part of his corner. When you see that your fighter is hurt like that and he wants to quit, you have to step in and make the story that you threw in the towel for him.

I don't really blame Ortiz for quitting being that his jaw was broken, but the fact is that it's going to be really tough for him to shake the "quitter" label at this point.

I thought that the ref is the only person that can stop a fight. Why would throwing in the towel make any difference?

Corner can throw in the towel and stop the fight.

Im all for CBS, but maybe because it wouldnt sell enough on PPV. Matt Jackson retweeted something and its a good thought. Canelo-Cotto. Im not sure if canelo is ready for a cotto type fighter yet but who else would be known fighter to possibly catapult canelo's career?

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing Devon Alexander v Canelo. Both are with golden boy. It would be a good fight. Why wouldn't this work?

Was Ortiz' jaw really broken or did he quit again?

After they called it, Ortiz opened his mouth and it was bleeding like crazy and it looked like some of his molars had been broken too, it looked pretty bad.

Yeah, it was pretty bad he had to have surgery. I saw that video where he opened his mouth and all that blood poured out -- nasty.

Ortiz was in the same weight class as Devon. Also, Devon has called out Shane Mosley who last fought at 154. The height and reach advantage is 1 inch so I don't think this is a problem, honestly.

Devon actually has a fight already scheduled against Randall Bailey, who KO Mike Jones on the undercard of the Pacman fight. And Devon isn't with Golden Boy, he's with DiBella. So thats another reason why he wasn't a choice.

They should put Lara vs Canelo, who is with GBP. But I'm guessing they don't want their cash cow to get KTFO by dangerous Erislandy Lara
