man F Stern Rome should had told him "i can start beating you" they are both douchebags, but comon man, you are THE NBA, you can't go around saying crap like that, even in a joking manner in today's society!!!!! Very poor decision, he could had easily navigated around the question by sticking to his first answer and repeating it over and over with each question until Rome figured out that Stern wasn't going to bite. and one other thing, is Stern going to fine himself for poorly representing the NBA in that interview?
Lmao. "David Stern fines himself $200,000 after comments on the Jim Rome show that 'reflect poorly on the league and its credibility'. The money will go to the David Stern support fund."
I can start to understand why the league has had to lock out the players twice under David Stern. Really, this was an easy question to answer. The lottery process is observed by the other teams in the league and a third party. The combinations are given out before the lotto balls are drawn. The league has taken a number of steps to eliminate the ability of anyone to rig the lottery - all Stern had to do is mention how the lottery process works and how it would be impossible to rig.
i cant stand jim rome i think the guy is a complete douche but he was totally outdouched in this case with Stern I mean the commissioner could have easily taken that question and given Rome reasons 1-5 (or however many) reasons why there was no way the lotto was fixed instead he comes off as super defensive and starts to attack Rome and hurts the league's image even more. I can totally understand if someone thought the lotto was fixed NOW after this interview. I am sure a lot of people touched about it, the wife question was rhetorical, but it shows a lot about Stern's character that he chose a rhetorical question that involved domestic abuse instead of using one of the plethora of rhetorical a lawyer like himself should have at his disposal
Jim Rome deserved that. If you're going to make allegations to Stern with very little credibility and substance, then you deserve the same kind of question back to you. I'm sure it offends Stern just as much it offended Rome when asked about "allegedly" beating his wife.
Maybe David Stern should start looking into why more and more people are starting to believe this and cannot take the NBA seriously instaed of being so defensive. Maybe if he actually address some of the issues, people wouldn't even have to ask this kind of question.
In journalism/media, people ask dead-end questions like this all the time. Why? Because people actually want them to ask. If nobody was wondering about the legitimacy of the NBA, it would be a pretty stupid question. But the fact of the matter is, people are wondering, and the NBA is seen as the least credible sports league in America right now in terms of professional legitimacy and transparency. You say "what was he expecting him to say?" I say "what were you expecting him to ask?" How's the weather? Seen any good movies lately? Stern could have taken that question as an opportunity to showcase the legitimacy of the lottery and explain the league's method, including addressing the obvious conflict of interest with the Hornets and what has gone on as of late, but instead he got super defensive and came off like an enormous prick. That did the last thing Stern wanted, it validated the reason Rome asked the question in the first place.
I'd start with the terrible officiating that is reason numero uno among my many friends and family who refuse to watch the NBA any longer. My father, who raised me to be a diehard basketball fan, literally laughed out loud yesterday when I asked him if he watched game 1. At the very least, it'd be nice to see the commissioner of a major sports league not act like a petulant baby when asked a question he knows many people other than Jim Rome have. Donny, great response.
unless, you simply answer something else other than yes or no and question the validity of the question?
the imperor smugly gaffaws in the face of public opinion that this league has evolved into a corrupted circus. his own sloppiness and overconfidence will spell his end..
Stern shouldve been the bigger man and shouldve expected this from Jim Rome. While everyone else just was talking about it, Rome actually brought it up. Of course there wont be an answer but at least reminds him that people are talking about this and it looks bad. Stern should just have said no and be done with it.
