oh...wasn't Marbury the guy who crossed over Yao and made him fall. I guess he still has that image of Yao in his head.

"(Garnett) doesn't even compare to Amare," Marbury said. "It's not even close. It's two different people. It's like Michael Jordan and Mario Elie. It's not even close."

Damn you marbury, I love Mario!

It's obvious that some of you don't know what ROY stands for.

Anyway, it'll be stupid not to give it to Yao.

He's topped all 3 of Decembers rookie power rankings and is better than Amare in all categories this month, even though he played LESS minutes.

Don't be disappointed. In this quote, he actually refers KG as a Mario Elie. Mario actually not in a bad company!

Cujo, you just recalled my memory. That Marbury made Yao looked real bad and their low BB iq sucxxxx bench laughed at yao.

We better marked our calendar (15/1/2003) to see Yao get someone pay for it....

wow, we should have trade Eddie for the Clipp's #8 pick and draft Stoudmire so we have both of them.

"(Garnett) doesn't even compare to Amare," Marbury said. "It's not even close. It's two different people. It's like Michael Jordan and Mario Elie. It's not even close."

"I won tonight," Garnett countered. "Since (Marbury) left, I've been in the playoffs every year. He hasn't. This is all about him being jealous. ... Since he left, he can't stop talking about Kevin Garnett. He has a family - a wife, three kids, big bills - and I'm still on his mind. It's like a girl. Yeah, like a girl. He just can't get me out of his mind. I'm bigger than all this. You guys know I'm more professional."

;) look at how Garnett counter Marbury, that's sweer! Are these 2 guys not friends anymore?

Stoudamire has made it interesting, especially with last night's explosion! WOW!

But I think "overall" for the whole month Yao gets the nod, especially with the Rockets beating the Kings and Pacers this month with big games from Yao. Yao's numbers, particularly his rebounding numbers have fallen off over the last week and a half but overall his numbers for the month are pretty good!

Also, I think Yao will win the Rookie of the Year award but it looks like Amare Stoudamire is really rising and will be close!

If you are going to call someone an idiot, then you should use better grammar.

Yeah, I guess Amare hasn't had an impact on the Suns, since they were such a contender last year. What did they do in the playoffs, oops they didn't make the playoffs did they? Which team has a better record. I agree Ming will have the better career, but you need to get your facts straight.

Stoudamire had one very good game and his team lost. Even the game before that, he was shooting 30% but for whatever reason the nba.com highlighted him so much. As a matter of fact, nba.com seems to promote him as a hero even Yao was so dominant in his stretch. Stoudamire looks good to certain extent because Phoenix gives him a lot of minutes and touches.

Exactly. I actually watched the game last night and I didn't come away impressed with Amare's basketball skills. I was extremely impressed with his athletic skills, though. Let's be honest here, Amare is still very very very raw. He just has so much athleticism at his size that he can, occasionally put up good to great numbers. But, you can see how inconsistent this makes him (those 2 point, 2 rebound games). Why, because, all one must do to negate him is put a strong body on him on the boards, and, for the love of god, make him take a jump shot when he gets the ball (something Minnesota failed to realize).

In terms of long-term potential, though, it is easy to see Amare being as good of a long-term pickup as Ming. While Ming has to become stronger, more athletic and become more comfortable playing American ball, Amare has to get a shooting touch, learn some post moves, learn how to pass, etc.

I happen to think that strength is more easier to develop than shooting touch/passing skills no?

I guess you don't need basketball skills to dominate the whole Minnesota Twolves team in the post.

Amare shot 4-12 against Cleveland but he managed to get to the line , 15 TIMES. Cleveland couldn't stop him at all and he would have gone for 40, too if the Suns kept feeding him the ball.

Why are so many people supporting Amare on the Rockets fan site? Yes, he's been a very good rookie, but Yao's stats are better. And this is a Rockets board, so we should be supporting our own! Yao is definitely ROY and ROM over Amare right now. Amare doesn't win because of one good game.

Amare has basketball skills, just none that truly impress me - can he make a layup/dunk against NBA competition - sure, and I guess those are basketball skills  , but they seem much more about his ability to jump higher and quicker than everyone else on the court - athletic abilities.

How many times does someone have to be shown that one, or two, games doesn't make a player, especially when one was aganst Cleveland and another broke the team's 5 game winning streak (yes, all the other Suns played like crap - of course that had a lto to do with Garnett guarding Shawn Marion most of the game, not Amare).

But if you want to just throw out random stats.

    12/8: Against Memphis - 1/5 FG, 2 RB, 0 Stl, 0 Assist, 1 Block, 4 TO, 4 PF, 2 PTS

(and Gasol had 21 and 17 that night and Lorenzo Wright has 17 and 11)

    12/17: Against Sacramento - 1/5 FG, 7 RB, 0 Stl., 0 Assist, 0 Block, 1 TO, 3 PF and 4 PTS.

What about defense - does Amare have any significant skills at that? From what I've seen, my opinion here is the same - amazing athletic ability but still has a lot to learn about good defensive basketball. In their win over the CLippers a few days back, Amare had a good showing (16 and 8), but got torched by Elton Brand who went off for 29 on 13-18 shooting...when they beat the Kings Amare went off for 16pts, 12 rebounds, but Chris Webber absolutely destroyed the Suns with 29 points, 15 rebounds, 11 assists and 5 steals. As with his offense, Amare has on and off nights defensively as well. Heck, even last night, while he embarassed gary Trent and Nesterovich had his usual sub par game, KG still had 22 points, 14 boards, 5 assists and Joe Smith and Mark Jackson both had decent games.

Anyways...I really like Amare and would love to see him in a Rocket's uni. I can't remember the last time I've seen a guy with that much energy, quickness and athleticism - heck, the last big man with it was probably a young Hakeem Olajuwon. But that doesn't mean I'm going to pop a woody every time he gets 12 dunks in a game in route to a great showing. Unlike you&me's other crapthreads, this one was started with objective discussion in mind. How about some ligical discussion instead of "Well, he sure did shoot a lot of free throws against Cleveland..."

    ALL YOU CRAZY PEOPLE...
Amare Stoudamire is the best rookie in DECEMBER.
But the Rookie of the ENTIRE YEAR will have to be Yao Ming. Or they may be co-rookies.
IF YAO played more than 10 MINUTES in the beginning games of the season, his average would be even better!!! And if Yao took more than EIGHT SHOTS PER GAME, he would score even more.
Amare is very talented and came out of high school at the age of TWENTY. He has gone through a lot and shows his emotions...but even though he scored 38 points...they still lost!!!
At NBA.COM...the poll asked "Who has the lead in the Rookie of the Year race?"
    Yao Ming - 68%
    Amare - a lot too
All of the people from around the nation believe that Yao should be the rookie of the year. I would like to see them both serve as co-rookie of the years.
