Now THIS is what I like to hear. I hope we don't see the same kind of celebration after we win the division this year as we did last year. The goal should be winning the Superbowl, not just winning the division.

Ehhhhhhhhh.... I can't help but be reminded of how often the Oilers trotted this out during the Glanville/Pardee eras and how cold and empty it made me feel when they eventually did something unfathomable and broke my heart. More recently, it conjures Tracy McGrady. Or LeBron "Not 1, not 2, not 3...." James.

I agree it should be the goal, but I much prefer this being internal and not for public consumption. Feels like posturing otherwise and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Let me know when Patriot or Steelers players vomit "Super Bowl" in every other sentence.

As the late, great Earl Campbell taught us: 'tis better to act like you've been there before.

Agreed. This isn't quite as brash as Lebron or Vince Young's "dream team", but I just don't like hearing it. Can't start thinking about the Super Bowl in June.

Also, Earl Campbell is still alive and kickin'. ;)

    I don't think it's comparable to not 1, not 2, not 3,...

Setting realistic goals should always be encouraged.

It was all about making the playoffs last season. The Texans have a different goal in mind this season and rightfully so.

If Lebron had said it we would literally have a 20 page thread of people b****ing about it.

No more parties for just making the playoffs. They need to have the same expectations as the Steelers, Ravens and Pats have this season.

All Smith is saying is that at this point of the franchise, it is no longer acceptable to aim to just make the playoffs which is what the previous goal was. That is completely different than Lebron proclaiming the Heat would win double digit championships and already mapping out where the parade would go in downtown Miami.

To be fair, that is because this forum is predominantly a basketball forum. Of course comments regarding LeBron and his dumbass comments will be paid attention to more than a Texans comment.

This is quite different than going "not 1...not 2...not 3...."

Every players goal should be the super bowl, and I am glad someone had the courage to say it.

I doubt he's doing much kicking with those knees of his.

Anyway, I don't have a problem with this. He didn't say the Texans would win the Super Bowl, or that they were the favorites to win the Super Bowl, or even predict the number of Super Bowls this team would win.

Only in Houston can a guy say that he'll accept nothing less than winning and get blasted for it by his own "fans".

Isn't that why people play sports? To win?

We've spent so many years losing that we're accustomed to it and can't fathom a dude coming out and speaking the truth, which is that this team is Super Bowl-caliber, and our expectations should match that.

    What a bunch of p*****s.

EDIT: To DieHard Rocket- I quoted you to respond to the alive and kicking part, not to call you a p***y.

Lebron said they will win more than 7 titles. If he only said, we are going to bring the championship next year to miami, then nobody wouldnt hate him for that.

Look Shaq when he got to miami, he promised that he will bring a championship to miami, but he only promised 1 title.

Well, in fairness, Antonio Smith isn't an uber-douche like Lebron.

How the hell is LeBron even being brought up in this thread?

Smith is saying the expectation for this year should be the Superbowl not just the playoffs like last year. How does that even begin to compare with what LBJ said?

Yes, I know it's June. I just like hearing someone say this. At this time last year, all McNair and company talked about was making the playoffs. Then when we made the playoffs, we threw a party at Reliant like we had just won the Superbowl. And proceeded to lose the next 3 games. (well, 2 since the titans game doesn't really count) This year, they want.....no, they EXPECT to do more than that.

This is a good thing. When does training camp start?

Really? This reminds me more of the expectations of the Rockets heading into the 1993/4 season. They knew what they were capable of...they set a goal...and were very clear that anything short of winning a ring was a failure. They started that season 15-0 with that as their motivation. They brought home Houston's first major pro sports championship.

In the locker room after losing to the Sonics in Game 7, Hakeem simply said "we go from here." And man, was he right. They rallied around that all year the next year.

I hope someone said something similar to that after the Ravens game last year.
