cuttino mobley says the only way he is productive is to score. i felt for him in all. but not any more. maybe he needs to not be lazy and play defense and let the points come to him. he is a dam ball hog. when he is open sure. or when he has a GOOD shot. rice even said he didnt wanna folloow the game plan. wel a few other teamates to from what i understand. but cat needs to cool off. im not making this another trade thread. he needs to stay here for now. but he needs to pick up defense. to bad he is not 6-6 huh? he can still play good defense if he tried. maybe some added workout in the gym gaining 15 pounds of muscle. and some footwork would help him. if not i think we should start HAWK. give him some playing time again and watch him learn some more from thte league. we know he can play defense. but i hope cat gets that negative thought out of his head and plays liek the player we all know he can play like. go rox...I LOVE THIS TEAM NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure trade ideas have surfaced, and I would present one too. But Rudy T could experiment with what we have now. What if instead of starting Mobley, the Rockets start with Moochie Norris, Steve Francis, Yao Ming, Eddie Griffin and James Posey? Mobley can score alright, I will not argue about this for now. But since Cato subs Yao, what if Mobley comes in when Yao sits, so there is an offensive alternative when Cato is on the floor. And please take Tito Maddox off the bench and give him minutes. So the second five would be Mobley, Maddox, Rice(or Nachbar or Terence Morris), Taylor and Cato. I've read a lot of trade suggestions involving Mobley, Norris, Rice, and Taylor. Instead of talking about them again(someone's bound to start again anyway), why not just juggle the whole Rockets roster and really evaluate what five would be the optimum.
Obviosly, it's mobley's fault we lost the last 3 games He has not played like a ball hog, try watching some games before you throw that out there. He does play defense. Mobley has been playing within the offense. Damn, Mobley takes the blame by saying that he hasn't been putting the ball in the hoop. I don't know about you guys, but to me that meant he hasn't been shooting well, not "screw the team, I need to score."
The problem is not that Mobley has been hogging, the problem is that Mobley simply is not effective at playing off the ball. Cuttino has not been getting the plays called nearly as frequently for him where he creates his own shot off the dribble. This is expected b/c the team is trying to establish an identity around Francis and Ming. The question has never been can Mobley score 20 a game, the question is that can he COMPLEMENT Francis and Ming and become the ROLE PLAYER this team needs. Thus far, the answer has been a resounding NO. Cat has averaged 40% from the field and 27.5% from the arc for the month of December which is awful. This team needs a 2 guard that is a better passer and defender along with being a more complementary offensive option. Logically one would think that Mobley would shoot better and play better in general having better shots created for him, but that is not the case. Not all players can be effective in a role player context where they let the game come to them and play off the star players. Mobley just is not that type of player, he needs the ball in his hands much more frequently to be successful. Thus, I dont see this current mix working.
i would love to see moochie, francis, posey, griffin and ming start. that would be a fast-breaking, defensive minded, better passing, better rebounding, better assist, ect. starting lineup than the current one. bring in cat and rice off the bench for instant scoring (but weaker d). posey is an upgrade over rice and i would hope that he will be starting once he gets more comfortable with all the plays and stuff. francis is a superstar player, but i dont think he is a great pg. like iverson, he should move to 2 and not have to worry about running the offense. i think that mooch could handle starting duties, especially with francis and posey dishing some out too.
I would like to see Steve Francis, James Posey, Eddie Griffin, Kelvin Cato, and Yao Ming start...JUST for ONE game. Too many tall guys. It would be fun. The triple towers.
All I can say is that Mobley shooting in the first half is part that is killing the team!! Seriously! The problem with Mobley is that he's only affective if he takes 20 shots!
hey i love this team dont get me wrong. i will always support them as long as there is a breath in my body. i dont hate the guy but he sure is a ball hog . i think someone else needs to pay attentoin to most games. ok mobley didnt do it against the knicks but then again who did anything against them? mobley needs to compliment yao and steve. he should be the 6th man
Better Mobley shooting than Cato. Or Rice. Or Eddie. Or Posey. Or Taylor. Or Moochie. Or Hawkins. Wait a second... Yeah, you guys are right. Yao and Francis should be the only ones who shoot the ball in the game, they're our best players, right? Only our best players are allowed to shoot the ball. Wait, group Boki in with those guys, he should get just as many shots too, because we know he's a stud. In fact, we don't even need to start 5 players, let's just start Francis at both Guard positions (because we just can't seem to decide where we want him to play, even though he prefers point guard. How strange, huh?) Then we'll start Boki at Small Forward. Ming can cover both the opposing 4 and 5, he's just that damn good. And we've got that whole zone defense thing to help us out, too.
Is Michael Finley a ball hog? Is Allan Houston a ball hog? Is Ray Allen a ball hog? Is Richard Hamilton a ball hog? All of these "star" players, who shoot more times than Cuttino Mobley, have less assists than Cuttino Mobley. So who's the ballhog? If you want to measure it by shot attempts, or passing (the two logical rules) all of those players, to name a few, are well ahead of Cuttino. Link please.
I have been following Mobley since his first surprise good season with Rockets ( out of RI), to be honest, ...he is just an ordianary player, I can see how RT love him from the beginning, but RT got to find the way to keep Mobey under control and fit into system.
Is all about if their plays fit into team's system or not. Sometimes people call Kobe Bryant selfish when he attempt too many shots, but rarely people say same to T Mac. When Hamilton in Wizzard, nobody said he is ball hog, even he shot good number of balls.. that's the only thing i can say.
all of you people saying that cuttino isnt a ballhog are obviously blind...he's not a good enough shooter to take that many shots...if he starts off slow, he'll keep firing away
If the Rockets start Moochie Norris for a reason other than an injury, the season is over.....This guy is a shot clock violation waiting to happen. He is worse with the ball than Cuttino. Hell give Tito the chance to start.
Yeah, Mobley sure looked like crap tonight against New Orleans. And I would like to congratulate Mobley for single-handedly causing the Rockets to lose 3 straight games apparently. Mobley sucks so much fitting into the team that he has put up great numbers while Ming and Francis have put up great numbers. Yeah Mobley is just an ordinary player, that why media members around the league talk about Francis and Mobley, because Mobley is just an ordinary player who can only score (nevermind the fact that Mobley has been on a blocking spree lately). I guess when the Rockets are struggling someone has to make a thread for the people who have to blame somebody. Usually it's Francis getting ripped and being called a 2-guard in a PG's body, but I guess this time Mobley getting trashed.
Don't you worry. Mobley is pretty good at going back to bad shooting after a good game. Once word. Inconsistent!!
