Where does it rank? Superstars: Derrick Rose Kevin Love Russell Westbrook All Stars (potential/ actual): Brook Lopez Danilo Gallinari Eric Gordon Nick Batum Serge Ibaka Roy Hibbert Other Notables: OJ Mayo Javel Mcgee Ryan Anderson DJ Augustin Micheal Beasley George Hill Omar Asik Mario Chalmers Brandon Rush Jason Thompson Darrell Arthur Deandre Jordan
You are still comparing potential. If you are going to consider potential into the 2008, then you should attempt to be objective to the 2003 class and do the same, and only measure where they stood at 2007 (potential and actual). One thing to consider is 4yrs into his career (where you are now measuring the 2008 class), Josh Howard would rank above Westbrook. So, not only do you have Wade, Lebron, Bosh, Melo ... but also Howard. And Wade had already won a title by his 4th year, so he was above Rose at that point, and Melo was having his best years shooting 48%+ and ****. The top of that draft was ridiculously better, when you add Howard and consider achievements and potential 4-5 yrs into their careers. And the depth of that draft was equal if not better. You say "Actual / Potential" all-stars. Here's the actual all-stars from 2003: Lebron Wade Bosh Carmelo Kaman West Howard 7 different all-star players in one draft. Then you still have solid starters and role players, especially when you measure them 4 years into their career. After those 7 all-stars, consider the potential of these guys 4-5yrs into their careers. Do not give 2008 unfair amount of potential bonus points. Unbelievable top talent and depth to this draft: Boris Diaw Kendrick Perkins Nick Collison Kirk Hindrick Luke Ridnour Mo Williams Steve Blake Kyle Korver Travis Outlaw Mickaƫl Pietrus Leandrinho Barbosa Jason Kapono (led league in 3ptrs in his 4th year) Zaza Pachulia Undrafted: Udonis Haslem Marquis Daniels Devin Brown (solid role player for the champion Spurs in his 4th yr)
My argument Heypee, if I have one, is that 2008 is a pretty strong draft class and thought it had enough in it that was good enough to be considered in the same breath as 2003.
