Morey's crowded roster of like skilled players is a problem and he even said "When is that a problem" a couple of years ago, to which Bill Simmons correctly replied that it was.... Too many guys of similar abilities = discontent and no heirarchy.....equals bad chemistry. DD
Le$, Maury, and McFail... this organization is headed in the wrong direction. I've heard before that the players were not happy with the organization. This thread just confirms that. I've also heard from other players on other teams that they do not view the Rockets favorably. No wonder nobody wants to come here.
we all knew the rockets were a one and done playoff team, even if we made it..... we did not make it... so what?? now you all are bytching about nothing that matters!!! lets see the next 2 months first... then you can chop off all the heads you like and I will bring the Gas to burn the bodies.. or we can make soap from the fat? it's all up to you people.... and I mean clutch fans and not the people that cross over the USA border illegally ... or the people that vote for free stuff for themselves... or the people scream race racist... for saying U people...hehehe ZZpot
whos not mad with mcFAIL? clowning around playing Scola at the 5 , not playing Marcus Morris, (trying to walk on one feet lol ok not that one)
Again, i say, good record, scrappy good team, emergence of rookie. Guys look, i bet McHale had orders from up top as far as doing crazy stuff. For all the people calling for Morris to get more playing time, the guy got playing time. He just didn't do anything with it. 17 games, 126 minutes, 16-54 fgm/a, 30%FG, 2-17 3pts, 12% 3pt%, 2ppg avg. Oh yeah and no defense.
Basically mchale is the vince mcmahon of the rockets which means some people like him and some people don't
You forgot to mention that in 2012 both starting guards bodies blew out and they missed much of the year. That McHale coaching job is starting to look not so bad now, isn't it?
Oh now you are going to use Yao Ming as a convenient excuse when you have been incredibily dismissive to the Yao injury effect for literally years?? Not trying to call you out or anything, but you have been saying for the longest time that Yao was more than done before 2011, and they should have traded him back in 2008 when apparently they had a chance to do so. The truth of the matter is Meh is right. Similar roster talent = similar end results. Maybe, we can all agree that coaching really doesn't matter that much until you actually get in the depths of the playoffs. You can only go so far with the talent that was given. In alot of respects, they actually overachieved. Now, I strongly hold McHale accountable somewhat for the 7 loss implossion at the end of the season this year as he should be. He does deserve some criticism there for not trying something, anything to get the team back on track. However, the end result is almost identicle to that of the beloved Adelman's end results with similar talent on the roster. And yes, almost exactly the same amount of player personnel problems happened last year with Adelman. It happens on every basketball team. McHale has room to get better, especially offensively, and I expect that much higher expectations will come from having a full Summer and offseason. Im not asking for your approval but he deserves a full offseason and another year before anyone can rightfully claim him as the person to blame for the Rockets not being a contender. If this team adds more talent, the Rockets dont make the playoffs, and McHale still makes some "rookie coaching" mistakes, I will agree that its time to start looking in another direction or to upgrade Sampson or Finch.
Good point. I think that is exactly what is happening. Time to plate up some assets for a trade or two.
The only player I think might have been pissed that was getting minutes at the end of the season before we were completely eliminated might be Budinger. Offensively, dude while he had a slow start, was good but he didn't start getting any minutes until Martin went out. He might be pissed because he can obviously see the writing along with Morris about being trade bait but other then him and I guess Dalembert, who got surplanted by an injured Camby, no one else should be that pissed. Either way, McHale is on a two year contract and was a lockout hire IMO. Since he performed beyond expectations, he deserves another year. Lowry by b****ing publicly screwed us and given his intelligence, he did it on purpose so he should be gone asap. Martin just doesn't fit in our system defensively as well as Lee so he should be traded.
The fact that McHale's sets are easy to defend is common sense but has me worried what he can do. The only reason the Rockets won was because of the players, not because of any defensive mindset, offensive sets or rotations. The fact we went 4-0 on the road is because Camby, Lee, Parsons & Dragic worked their buts off. It worked for a while until McHale decided big guys shouldn't play at the end of games when you need rebounding, decided to go with Kyle who was clearly not ready, not using Boykins who had a real calming influence on the court despite his own poor play at times etc.
Do you not remember the Rockets going without a center during the 4th quarter in, for example, Portland during the 4-0 road trip? Going small is something that the team employed often all season. They did it during wins and during losses. As far as Lowry's struggles: Sure he came back to early and McHale said that, looking back, he perhaps should have ignored Lowry's begging to play. However, it's not like Boykins was lighting the world on fire. Even his "calming influence" didn't really achieve great results for the team while he was on the court overal (http://www.82games.com/1112/11HOU1.HTM#onoff).
Short bench due to injuries leads to fatigue. McHale was gunning for a playoff spot, and used everyone up. It happens when you lose your starting back court to injuries for much of the year.
Mannix: "I thought Kevin McHale did a credible job given the turmoil before the season. The adversity with the roster, half of the roster didn't want to be there and didn't know if they were going to be there at the trade deadline." He'd also be surprised if they trade Lowry. "Unless [Daryl is] given a knock-your-socks-off offer, I think he'll be back next year where as Goran Dragic is somewhere else." http://houston.cbslocal.com/?podcast_url=http%3A%2F%2Fcbshouston.files.wordpress.com%2F2012%2F05%2Fmannix-503012.mp3&podcast_name=Chris+Mannix&podcast_artist=SportsRadio+610&station_id=63&audio_link=true&config_file=config.xml&dcid=CBS.HOUSTON
