My first ever roast. It turned out pretty good. I will cook it longer next time at a lower temp...

hors d'oeuvres - olive mix, genoa salami sliced deli thin, campo de montalban cheese (3 milk cheese: goat, cow and sheeps milk), baguette, various beers.

    dinner - roast, potatoes, carrots

salad - lettuce, spinach, sliced pieces of red cabbage, grated beets, grated squash, cucumbers, croutons, feta, slivered almonds and a homemade raspberry vinaigrette with lemon dressing!

wine - big tattoo red - australian blend of 3 different grapes. very good and light, no bold tastes or strong finish. enoyable and drinkable.

dessert - apple cranberry pie with vanilla ice cream

My wife and I cooked, and we departed greatly from tradition this year. I made fettucine alfredo and shrimp scampi, and we had six different salamis and Italian meats from central market...along with several different cheeses and breads from there too.

I think I tried to kill my family with cholesterol and fat this year.

I did roast a turkey (yes, I brined this one) on Sunday for some friends who were in Spain over Thanksgiving. I got creative with my dressing and put pistachios and dried cranberries in it.....it friggen rocked!!

On Monday, we had different friends over, and I made homemade cheese enchiladas, queso, guacamole, Mexican shrimp cocktails, homemade refried beans, and tostados.

We've gone through wines from La Crema, De Loach, Cakebread, Simi, and a whole slew of less known brands. Not too mention margaritas, egg nog mixers (that creme brulee liquer is pretty darn good.)

I bet I prepared in excess of 100,000 calories in the past week. I can't wait for New Years resolutions.

I think I'm gonna eat nothing but grapefruit for a year. That should make things about right.

We visited with my family in the a.m. then spent the afternoon (and dinner) with the Balke clan. Jeff's aunt fixed Turkey (which we skipped ;) ) mashed potatoes, asparagus, salad, stuffing, cranberries and apple pie. It was all delicious.

Now I'm back to eating my sad little cup of soup for lunch. :(

    Are these pre-digestion pictures? :)

At Location 1 - my house in the morning - I had some Hickory Farms sausage and cheddar cheese that we got as a gift and a bunch of chocolate.

At Location 2 - my wife's grandma's house in the afternoon - we had turkey, ham, dressing, etc.

At Location 3 - my mom's house at night - we had ham, dressing, chocolate pie, fudge, and enough other desserts to kill a horse.

Gotta get back on the healthy eating wagon soon...

Forget Christmas dinner. I'm looking more forward to the Boxing Day hot turkey sandwiches! Woooooohooo!

Hot turkey sandwich with fries, dressing, peas and gravy. Can't beat it. Best meal of the year.
