My dog almost died this week, suddenly for no known cause. She is ok now after 2 days on IVs in the hospital. This thread isn't about her, it is about getting the word out. I feel compelled to tell all dog owners. No one I know has ever heard of this. Please read this so you know the symptoms that I experienced. and note the line "The progression of HGE is so rapid that hypovolemic shock and death can occur within 24 hours." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemorrhagic_gastroenteritis peace...belly rubs all around.
Whenever you hack into my E-Mail please don't judge me over my inbox full of "ventriloquist lubed up hand p*rn"..mmkay?
hope beta is doing better. can't imagine watching my dog go through something like that. what breed is she?
Thanks for the info. Seriously, I'll remember this as something not to disregard if it happens and go straight to the animal hospital.
OK, I deserved that. vicious these parts. funny. now just leave this thread and allow me to spread the word about a more vicious real thing. HGE
mix stray. Not "young adult" small breed as the wiki says. She is 47 pounds, but lost 3 pounds in one day.
I thought it was giardia again, because I saw blood in the poop earlier in the day, and she only vomited once at work that I saw, a "normal healthy" puke that we see occassionally (later I found out she went in other offices to hide it). But the diarrhea quickly escalates to almost pure blood. I couldn't really tell because it was dark out at the time. But after all night up with her going out every 30 minutes (no joke) I eventually fell asleep at 530 and told her to just don't mind anymore and just go in the house. I woke up at 630 and it look liked someone was murdered in my house. I knew I was in over my head at midnight, but hate emergency clinics (bad times) and tried to play mom and ride it out until 730 to see my vet. That was a mistake. finalsbound -- the symptoms technically might be hard to see in the dark. But one unmistakable one (in my experience), they start dehydrating quickly and want water, but immediately puke out the water. That's bad...That is a spiraling state of dehydration.
