Dirk was a big time Superstar last year and that is the main reason they win.

You need 1 superstar to win a championship (at least). Sure there are the rare years where you have a really strong rounded team and no stand-out superstar (e.g. Pistons when they won), but just look at the teams that won championships since the NBA begun and who won the Finals MVP and who was the second best player. Definite pattern!

I wouldn't mind just the hope of having a superstar (e.g. High potential exciting young player)!

Murray am smart! I also back to bandwagon! Thanks SacTown for notice and also not mentioning Lebron, for once, in a post. Oh wait....

Super Stars are those players that get every single fouled called even if it's not even a foul, (dirk Nowitzski, however you spell his name)

Well they havent won anything as of yet, and I honestly dont think they will win it this year again. Yes they win games, yes they get to the playoffs, but do they win the Championship? Not this year, not last year.
Role players are very important to a team, look at the Spurs, look at the Thunder. Look at the lakers with 3 so called superstars, got bounced by the Thunder with 2 Superstars and great role players. That's my OPINION

In todays league, you need a superstar to win two ways about it. You could argue San Antonio doesn't have any superstars, but Duncan/Ginobli/Parker are all top 10 in the league in their position.

Dwight would be a good start, but at this point a lot of potential guys come to mind. Deron Williams would be nice, but also Lopez, Hibbert and Bynum (if you felt like going down THAT road) are out there.

Dwight is the big splash I'm looking for though.

...well Morey is no idiot so of course he knows you need a superstar to win but a far more compelling reason for Morey I'm sure is that it makes good business sense(he has said this much in the past). If you look at how much mid level guys make relative to true superstars, there is a better value attached to top 10 guys making max money. Every year that a real superstar signs somewhere as a FA, 2 or 3 other teams who had money reserved for that player overspend on some other far inferior product - the mid level market is overinflated by teams spending money to compete in a market of scarce opportunity(the hunt for a true superstar) who have to settle for lesser pieces.

So glimmer I have convinced myself and a few others that the rockets could obtain Gasol and Josh Smith this summer. No superstar there but do you think that a lineup of:

    Gasol/Camby
    Smith/Motie
    Parsons/bud
    Martin/Lee
    Dragic/???

and the 16th pick in this years draft could be relevant?

I been trying to say get those two as well... maybe you planted the seed? But i do believe its possible and would think its a great foundation now and later... we compete now and get exposure untill gasol gets old and tired then wallah hes a 20mill expiring... jsmooth is young... dragic could really turn into something special workin with them two along with his connection with c.lee...
