Drew has some talent all of us agree. But he is a casualty of not enough minutes since Moochie Norris came over to H-town.

Let's analyse my "Don't trade Drew; if you don't get another point guard in a trade"

Francis is an amazing athlete and is a tremendous risk taker when he is doing his playing. And I hate to say this, but this brings on a lot of injuries in other players. I hope Steve Francis is different and can play without significant injuries. But that is when a player like Drew comes in handy. Drew has shown to have a lot of talent. Remember last year everyone was drewling over Drew as everyone is drewling over Langi now.

One of two things must happen; play Drew in the Regular season at least 18-22 minutes or trade him now. But Drew is a huge saftey net in case Francis goes out with any extended amount of time.

Drew is a player who can score 16 pts and 6 assts. as the starting point guard with relative ease.

If the Rocks trade Drew, I hope they have some foresight and ask for pointguard in return as well as anything else they got.

I agree - or even a safety net in case Anderson or Mobley or Norris goes down.
I just posted the same thing in another thread (well a similar thing!)

If Francis goes down, Moochie will start.

Mobley will have to step up his game.

Rockets will probly sign a pg to play for them while Francis is out. (like they did last year, remember how the Rocket's ended up with Moochie?)

Drew is completely unnecessary on this team now. Trade him or waive him.

Also Dr N, the rockets could sign a 2 guard as well, for that injury time, if Mobes or SA was injured.

Giving Drew a roster spot means losing someone else. I'd rather keep Los or Bull than Drew. 3rd pg isn't a necessity, esp. when the starting pg is probably going to average 30 minutes or so a game.

I agree with you about having that other guard on the team. Don't forget that Rayford Young of Texas Tech has been invited to camp. For Houston to invite another point with Stevie, Moochie and Bryce here means they are just taking a precaution that they will unload one(Brcye). Then give a guy like Rayford a one year minimum. Believe me Rayford is a pure point guard who can score and defend with the best of them.

If Steve Francis is to get injured, this team will be in a lot of trouble as it is, and Bryce Drew by himself is not going to solve that. Keeping Drew around and having him just sit at the end of the bench in case something like this happens is not a good idea. Instead, if this horrible thing were to happen, then the Rockets could just start Norris, let Mobley play some more time at PG and then go out and sign a CBA type PG to fill the gap. Then when Francis returned, they could just go back to normal. Moochie is a really nice fit with this team and needs to get the backup PG playing time.

Drew would be a nice safety net, but we could get by in case of a Francis injury without him.

Like ppl have already said, start Mooch, play Cuttino at pg, and if necessary, sign another pg.

it would be insulting to Drew to have a career as a third string pg. show the guy we care by giving him a chance to play on a team that will give him the same opportunities we are giving Francis and Moochie.

Agree with comets 100%. The guy deserves a chance to show what he can do. After all Maloney got that chance.

Naturally Drew might come in handy if Francis goes down, but we can say that about any team and any position.

It doesn't really make sense to keep him at the end of the bench just in case Francis gets injured. If that does occur, he would have to share minutes with our other PG Moochie Norris.

I must have gone into hibernation or something, when did Moochie become anything more than a back-up point guard getting some 2nd quarter minutes and garbage time.

There is no way if Steve got injured that Moochie would start and play decent minutes.

This is the NBA we are talking about not street ball or jungle ball or the summer leagues in DC, this is the NBA where basketball is played at both ends of the floor and points guards are required to Think and run the offense, as opposed to fancy dribbling for 18 seconds and then attempting some useless no look, no thinking behind the back out of the arse pass for a turnover.

He is a back-up PG, each team has one, some have two and nothing more than that and there are better ones around the league. Plus he is backing up Steve Francis who will play major minutes for the rest of his career.

Drew is a far superior Player (notice i said player not 5 minute back-up PG) and if we didn't have Steve he would play a major role at the Rockets. If Bryce is content playing minimal minutes for another year, then he might stay, but i hope the rockets do the right thing and get him some minutes on someone else's roster.

    Vince,

Whoa, slow down a bit. 16-6? That's a pretty difficult plateau to reach. By my research (and I could be wrong), only these guards have had comparable or better numbers last year:

    Van Exel: 16-9
    Francis: 18-7
    Hardaway: 13-7
    Cassell: 19-9
    Brandon: 17-9
    Marbury: 22-8
    D. Armstrong: 16-6
    Kidd: 14-10
    Payton: 24-9
    Bibby: 15-8

    BRYCE DREW: 6-2

While I understand that if Drew started, his minutes (and hopefully his numbers) could double, that still leaves him a little room for improvement to 16-6, "with relative ease." I just can't see Drew putting up Darrell Armstrong's numbers, even with the starting job.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think Drew is a decent player caught in an unfortunate situation. The way I see it, his role in Houston is expendable. Like Crisco said, if Stevie goes down, Moochie can start. And then the Rox can start looking for a third PG. (the same way that they got Mooch)

    Like I said, I hope I'm wrong....

So Drew is taking a roster spot - I too would rather have Bull or 'los, but can somebody PLEASE tell me how many roster spots we are entitled to at the beginning of the season? Is it just the 12? Or are we allowed to have players on IR to start the season?

This is going to hurt me more than...well, it's just going to hurt me, but I have to agree with Smeg (in theory).

Although, I'm sure if Drew is traded away that the Rockets have been satisfied with Moochie or Cuttino's ability to start at point if necessary.

We all know Drew can start at the point, but I've yet to see Moochie. I didn't catch much of the Rocky Mountain Revue. Perhaps Moochie answered those questions there. Maybe the Rockets take it easy on Francis in the preseason and give Moochie a start. Maybe he showed his leadership skills in practices last year in scrimmages.

I trust the Rockets staff enough to think that if Drew is traded that they have confidence in Mooch or Cat to start.

Drew averaged 17 and 6.6 in his five starts last year...

The Rocks could have played Cat at the point last year, in Steve's absence, but, instead picked up Moochie. Partly, IMO, because Drew had some medical problems. Sometime this season, Steve, Shandon, Cat and Moochie will face minor injuries and foul trouble. Drew adds depth at both positions. Los adds depth at 2 positions also. I'd like to keep them both. If they would rather be elsewere, the Rocks should help them out. If not, find a way to keep them here. IR?

I think we already have Maloney signed to a 10-year contract.

bryce is a good guy, rudy likes him ... his teammates like him ... but does he want to ride the pine. i know if givin the chance this guy can be effective, however he fit more with the older rockets than the new running rocks. we know he can flat out shoot, he is a better ball handler than maloney, but i don't think he can blow by the defender and get layups with the rockets iso plays(which i really don't like, they are overused). i would be happy to have him on the bench for a safety net ... but rudy will trade him if it improves our current position or future position and gives bryce a chance to play. we will have to wait and see what happens, either way i'll support the outcome and cheer for bryce no matter what uni he is wearing. maybe bryce has a good camp and get the backup job back, if not and he is traded i think cat could play the one if we need him and shop for a bigger 2guard.
