In a debate with a friend, which sport requires more skill? Preferably want opinions from ones who have played both sports.

    I think its definitely soccer

You can have athletic guys like Blake Griffin with very little skill dominate in a lot of situations in basketball. That's very unlikely in soccer. You have to have some form of skill to even contribute in soccer and foot coordination is a lot harder than hand coordination imo.

    Soccer.
Its easier to control things with your hand than your feet.

Anyone who said 'soccer' is a traitor and a communist.

Soccer. As someone said before, it is a lot harder to control the ball with your feet.

To play at an elite level, I'd say they are both equally difficult to master. Easy to say one requires greater skill than the other, when you're more adept at one.

as much as i love soccer, i say basketball. If not, the association would have more than six franchise players. I also blame the blacks, hispanic, whites and asians for not being better at basketball! I want another great center dammit!

Agreed. Having one good or great physical trait does not make a professional soccer player. There is no Chuck Nevitt or Gheorghe Muresan in soccer. You can't be a professional soccer player for the sole reason that you're a very tall person.

Basketball's the easiest sport in the world unless you're under 6'8" or can't shoot; then you have to think and/or fight a lot harder, and be in a lot better shape (I think most point guards are either insanely fit or just smart).

I don't think I understand soccer enough to anticipate anything or appreciate a missed opportunity. Only thing equally hard is trying to guess different types of pitches (not having ever played or watched baseball growing up).

Soccer. How they spin the ball, have so much power, and capable of using both feet is absolutely amazing to me. I can hit a jump shot from 30ft about 50% of the time. I couldn't kick a single penalty shot past a professional goal keeper.

I played both sports my entire life. Both are my favorite sports.

In my opinion, soccer is more technical and finesse than basketball. You can still dominate your competition in basketball as long as you are bigger, taller, faster, or jump higher than them.

Fair enough, but Blake Griffin is pretty damn skilled for a player his size.

Anybody who thinks basketball requires more skill than soccer, see exhibit A.

What is all of this saying it's harder to control a ball with your feet than your hands? Have you seen somebody that doesn't play basketball try to dribble? Most can't even dribble between the legs.
