Putting Posey at starting 2 doesn't work. Posey is better defensively at the 3 than at the 2. He's a forward, not a sg by natural position. Why force him to play out of position? Besides, having Posey at the 2 and Rice at the 3 creates an unbalanced lineup. Compare the two alternatives, if we put Mobley and Posey together, not only do we get enough scoring from those two, but also nice defense. With Posey and Rice, it's less offense and worse defense overall! - Posey and Rice's defense won't be better than Cat and Posey's. As for if Posey should replace Rice in the starting lineup: Glen Rice = Walt Williams. Enough said.
One more thing: As a poster pointed out, when Rice scores only single digit points, he's worthless. When he's putting into the starting lineup, that means the Rockets are forced to swallowed his ineffectiveness on both offense and defense if his threes are not falling. That's playing 4 on 5, that's live and die with Glen Rice.
So...Rice is a captain. He's too old to play defense. Cuttino Mobley is a good defensive player but can't guard guys that are much bigger and stronger than him. That's why we have James Posey! And Joaquin Hawkins! But if we put both of them in, we won't have enough offense. Center is covered...Yao and Cato are great defensive players. I now realize that we could put them in together. Power Forward...depends on Griffin's mood. Griffin usually does okay but is just too weak. He can't play 48 minutes. Mo Taylor is too small against the big power forwards. Cato could move down... Maurice Taylor loses the ball too much when he drives! MY GOD! He tries to draw fouls but never gets any calls. But he has been improving each game. Small Forward...Hopefully Rudy is gradually giving more playing time to Posey and less time to Rice. Maybe Posey can shoot 3's like Glen Rice. He can always practice. Why don't we try Bostjan Nachbar out? He must be a good European shooter. What if he was put in and started going on fire? We could at least try. Terence Morris...CUT HIM!!! Shooting Guard- Cuttino Mobley has to get his rythym going. And when he does have his rythym, he's on fire. But sometimes he can't shoot at all. He is too inconsistent. But he has been taking less shots. And The Cat does good on defense but when he faces taller players, we should put the Hawk in. Point Guard- Steve Francis has it covered. Steve should stop people from driving in. Yao and Griffin can't stop them all the time. Moochie...great sometimes but inconsistent.
i agree. glen rice is a peice of trash. offensively and defensively. we should have got him when he was alot younger. please retire. we all respected glen when he played for miami and charlotte, but he is not helping us at all.
It would be Ok if Rudy played Matchups, but he dosen't.Posey is the back up for Mobley, so Mobleys playing time should be reduced. Rice should be coming off the bench. Morris/Nachbar should get the chance to develop.
Francis, Norris, Maddox. Mobley, Posey,Hawkins Morris/Nachbar, Rice Griffin,Taylor Yao,Cato. One too many someone must be on the reserve!
If this was true that Rice insisted to start and complaint lack of PT, he really sicken my stomach. I would call his decision a selfish act because he totally undermined the development of this team. He knew there wasn't much time left for him. If he truly wants the team to succeed in the upcoming years, he should let guys like Posey, Boki get more playing time. He could still contribute by being a role player instead of a starter.
As a guy who likes defense...I don't like Glen Rice. The Rockets should dump him ASAP, if any...any market opens for his contract, IMHO. Based on poor defense, here are - Players I want to eliminate : Rice Taylor Moochie Players I'd trade Cuttino Player I wouldn't trade Steve Given that Steve is a defensive sieve, we must have a good help defender to run with him, if not two. A short, jack-happy, 0-only player isn't going to cut it. A slow, old, o-only, jump shooter is a big "score on me" neon sign. Any team with a smart coach like Jerry Sloan is just going to carve us up like a Christmas goose. If Cuttino's on the court, Rice must go, and Steve shouldn't be out there, either. How do we make up the points we'd "lose"? Better shots, closer in. More shots for Yao, first and foremost. Note direct correlation between Cuttino and Yao, lately. Cuttino fires bad shots, Yao gets less attempts. More shots for Griffin and ...that other sack of no-defense #$%! that I'd trade in a heartbeat. I'd rather feed a forward rolling to the hole than a 2 or a 3 jacking. More shots for Posey, slashing and on the break. In short, we don't lose anything, we gain. The need to swing the ball more will result in better shots, better offensive sets, better percentage opportunities. Not to mention more opportunity baskets from the vastly improved defense. We just cannot possibly expect to shoot ourselves out of the hole we dig when Steve's man is going to get 25, Cat's is going for 20, And Rice's man is En Fuego for 20+. Please note we lose the point battle at multiple positions with that lineup; Yao and the pf get less touches, the opponent is more effective inside when our frontcourt is nicked up with fouls. Decent teams will crush a score-first Rockets lineup - they're spotted 85 pts in a race to 100. We could only expect 65 out of our lineup. That sucks. We must play defense to win.
Glen Rice wouldn't work off the bench. He's not a sparkplug type. He's a good starter, and once defenses focus more on Ming and Francis, Mobley and Rice will start shooting lights out. At some point, Rice is going to get so hot from 3-pt range, you're going to forget this conversation ever happened.
