FWIW, he was the greatest college player to accomplish nothing. (1 Big XII championship, and a few awards not named Heisman... nothing overly-special).

    it's be like d-rose of the bulls getting injured in game 7 of the finals;

Sure, you have other plays but the guy was the main playmaker and youd rather have him over GG.

Just thought I'd put it into perspective since texas was very conservative and predictable with the playcall until they HAD to throw with GG (leading to sacks, fumbles, 4 INTs)

UT was crap before Mack Brown. It's amazing how people forget that.

    T-sipps are irritating.

But the haters are downright ridiculous.

Colt McCoy's was an average college QB, really?

He has a rough sophmore campaign, but in his other 3 years he only lost 2 games that he finished.

One of them was his second start against the number one team in the country, and the other game he wins if Blake Gideon catches an easy interception.

As for Mack Brown, he is the president of the football team, not the coach. 4 BCS bowls and 2 appearances in the National Title game are good results. Could be better, but other than Saban,Urban meyer, and maybe Les Miles there's nobody decidedly better IMO.

Stoops hasn't won a title in over a decade. They weasled thier way into 2 of their National title games over more deserving teams. The one legit appearence they made, they got absolutely torched. Since 04, they've averaged 3 losses a season.

Now stoops is a great coach also, people just have unrealistic expecatation the expect any coach to compete for National titles all the time.

Seriously, its as if John Mackovic didn't exist.

Moreover, Texas football is so ridiculous with the corporate influence and media spectacle that Mack Brown is more of a CEO than a coach at this points.

I know its a high profile job, but I think the Texas job has to be one of the most ridiculous ones to deal with. Way too much bull**** to worry about on top of coaching. I mean all coaches have to deal with it to a certain extent but Texas just seems especially bad.

Mack gets compensated for that. He's consistently one of the top 3 highest paid coaches. There is a lot more money at stake for the school also.

It's the same at Bama or LSU or USC or any other top tier program. If he really wanted he could have got an rg3 or a luck or whomever. I don't think Mack was ever a great coach and if not for VY he might be gone. He was getting destroyed by stoops he couldn't win the big one and going to holiday bowl every year. Then he got Vince got a NC and right after he got colt who was pretty good from his first year.

haha..the arguments made by the haters are pretty funny/ridiculous. Brown could've done more with the talent he had, but there are only a handful of schools that have done more. Since 2000, here are UT's end of the season rankings (AP):
    '00 - 12
    '01 - 5
    '02 - 6
    '03 - 12
    '04 - 5
    '05 - 1
    '06- 13
    '07 - 10
    '08 - 4
    '09 - 2
    '10 - UR
    '11 - 24

Recruiting, marketing and building the program is part of the job and Brown is great at those aspects. You can quibble with his tactics, or pure football coaching acumen, but the results are clear. I would criticize their ability to develop talent, but that is just from an NFL point of view.

Excellent recruiter, poor talent developer. With their recruiting classes basically always being top 5, they should be so much more competitive.

Not much of a college football fan, but I thought Mack was continuously criticized at UT for his less than stellar on-the-field prowess. Seems like he's fairly judged in terms of his strengths and weaknesses.

The question is, if UT is as awesome as people say they are, should they have been able to find the very best coaches? Those that can both recruit and coach disciplined football at the same time? To me Mack is like a Rick Adelman type. You know he's very good. But he's not Phil Jackson or Gregg Popovich.

Rick Adelman is actually an excellent comparison.

The thing about Mack is, the Texas program was in the cellar before Mack came along. Once he got here, he completely turned it around and made it what it is today. They aren't going to just send him on his way hoping they can find a better coach.... and they shouldn't, honestly.

He's going to stay in Texas until he's ready to retire. He's earned that right, in my opinion.

Sheesh. Here we go again. The 2009 National Championship Game can be summed up in one picture:

Just stop F'ing saying that Texas would of won FOR SURE if Colt played the whole game. Maybe next time he won't try to run into Marcel Dareus.

Did you watch college football from late 90s to early 2000's. Mac was criticized heavily for getting blown out by Oklahoma and being unable to win the big game. How many conference titles has he ever won? How many before VY. Did you even go to UT?
